Thien Cam beach sidewalk is occupied as a parking lot

VnExpressVnExpress30/04/2024

Ha Tinh At Thien Cam beach tourist area, people occupy sidewalks and common spaces to park cars and motorbikes and collect fees from tourists without permission.

On the evening of April 29, on the sidewalk of Phuc Hai Street, Thien Cam Town and Tan Hai Street, Cam Nhuong Commune, Cam Xuyen District, hundreds of tourist cars were parked close together, in long rows. Along both sides of the road, dozens of meters long, there were many spontaneous parking spots, people hung "car parking" signs on trees or high-pressure lamp posts along the roadside. Every time a car or motorbike turned in, someone immediately approached, talked to them and wrote a ticket, and when the customer took the car and left, they had to pay.

Each car parked at the spontaneous parking lots in Thien Cam beach resort must pay 20,000 VND, motorbikes 10,000 VND. On some small roads in this area, many families also put up parking signs on the sidewalk right in front of their houses.

A tourist said that while driving on the street, he saw many people waving at him to park, and then they raised the issue of charging a fee. This was "quite surprising", because previously tourists could park on the sidewalk a few hundred meters from the beach and then walk back to cool off and enjoy the view. "Only when entering a parking lot set up by the government do they have to pay," the tourist said.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Huong, Head of the Thien Cam Tourist Area Management Board, said that currently there is only one paid parking lot for cars and motorbikes, hundreds of square meters wide, located inside Phuc Hai Street, in Thien Cam Town. Other streets do not have a policy of allowing people to rent sidewalks for parking.

According to Mr. Huong, the management board once had a plan to submit to Cam Xuyen district a proposal to allow people to register some sidewalks on the roads surrounding Thien Cam tourist area to serve as parking lots for tourists. The purpose of this is not for business, but to raise funds to cover electricity, water, and security guards... However, the above issue needs further discussion and has not been implemented yet.

The sidewalks of Phuc Hai and Tan Hai streets are planned to be used as beverage outlets and places for tourists to enjoy the fresh air. "We cannot arbitrarily make parking lots," Mr. Huong said, adding that during the April 30-May 1 holiday, many tourists come to Thien Cam, and the unit has few human resources, so it is difficult to control everything. "We will rectify this," he said.

Mr. Ha Van Binh, Chairman of Cam Xuyen district, said he will send officials to inspect the above situation and strictly handle those who do not comply with regulations.
