Bang Van Commune Police are monitoring the progress of demolishing the dilapidated house of Mrs. Ban Thi Tong's family, Hang SLau village. |
Bang Van is located in the North of Thai Nguyen province, bordering Cao Bang province. The commune was established on the basis of merging the entire population and natural area of the two communes of Thuong An and Bang Van (old), with more than 1,200 households in 16 villages.
The commune center has National Highway 3 passing through, convenient for trading and buying and selling activities. However, the majority of people's lives are still purely agricultural, self-employed, with only a small number of people doing business in services. The commune is not far from the Ma Nu gold mine (Thuong Quan commune), which was once famous for its spontaneous gold mining activities. Many workers from other places flocked here, and the large and complicated gatherings led to an increase in social evils.
The number of poor households is high, unemployed youth are easily drawn into drug abuse, theft arises, causing insecurity and disorder.
Based on that reality, strengthening security at the grassroots level is very necessary. Since the implementation of the policy of deploying regular police to communes, solutions to ensure security and order have been deployed synchronously, contributing to stabilizing political security and social order in the area. Thefts and drug-related crimes have been detected and gradually pushed back.
Specifically, from 2024 to present, the Bang Van Commune Police force in coordination with the old Ngan Son District Police have detected and handled 15 cases, including 13 cases of illegal drug trafficking and possession with a weight of 76.3 grams of heroin; 2 cases of property theft.
Among the above cases, there were 3 cases of illegal possession of drugs and theft of property discovered during the peak period of the crackdown on crimes (from July to August 19, 2025).
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Thuy, Deputy Head of the Commune Police, said: After the merger, the area was large and the population was sparse. We established working groups, assigned officers to regularly stay close to the base, increased patrols, and strictly controlled key areas and border areas; reviewed and classified subjects to have appropriate management and monitoring measures.
At the same time, the Commune Police force has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to raise their vigilance and actively report crimes in many forms. With the increased workload, in addition to the task of ensuring security at the grassroots level, the Commune Police also focused on handling administrative procedures for issuing citizen identification cards and electronic identification; at the same time, mobilizing forces to participate in supporting the elimination of temporary houses...
Power from the people

Thanks to the focus on synchronous solutions on security and order, the security situation in the area has stabilized, especially the situation of illegal drug trading and use in Bang Van has decreased sharply. People's awareness has changed a lot. If in the past, some households were afraid, now many people have proactively reported and coordinated to arrest violators. In many cases, families have taken their relatives to drug rehabilitation and encouraged them to return to honest work.
Mr. Linh Quang Trinh, Cho 1 village, shared: Since the regular police force came to the commune, our people feel secure. Social evils, especially drug abuse in the area, have decreased significantly.
In recent years, Bang Van commune has not had any "hot spots" or complicated security and order issues. Last year, the Commune Police achieved the title of "Winning Unit" and was classified as excellent. Security is guaranteed, people are confident in developing their economy , some households have boldly invested in comprehensive economic models, earning hundreds of millions of dong each year. The inner-village roads are concreted, schools and medical stations are spacious, and children have a full education.
However, according to Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Thuy, although the security and order situation has changed a lot, drug use and trading activities are still latent. The commune police will continue to advise local authorities on solutions to ensure security and order; increase patrols and controls, especially in border areas; apply information technology in management; and coordinate with the grassroots security and order force to promptly handle arising incidents.
Bang Van today is a vivid proof of the truth: "Security at the grassroots level is strong when the people are at peace". It is the consensus and solidarity between the authorities and the people that has turned a rural area that used to be a "hot spot" into a more peaceful one...
