39 students in flooded areas cannot go to school, so Dong Le Primary School (Dong Le Ward, Dong Ha City) has decided to let all classes take a day off today, October 29, to ensure safety.

Speaking to reporters of Quang Tri Newspaper on the morning of October 29, Principal of Dong Le Primary School Truong Huu Minh said that the school's facilities are still ensuring normal teaching and learning, and have not been flooded, but due to many requests from parents and homeroom teachers, the Board of Directors has decided to let students take a day off today to ensure safety. The school has reported to the Department of Education and Training of Dong Ha City and has been approved.

“Many parents texted that their students could not come to class because their residential areas were flooded and they were worried that it was unsafe. Preliminarily, 39 out of 397 students of the school are in flooded areas, in Lap Thach and Ward 5,” Mr. Minh informed.

Dong Le Primary School has 12 classes, the number of students whose houses were flooded and could not go to school is equivalent to 1 class.

“Tomorrow, if there is no more flooding and students can travel safely, the school will resume normal classes. We will make up for it, and students will study all day to complete the program,” Mr. Minh added.

Ms. Le Thi Tu Le, Head of the Departmentof Education and Training of Dong Ha City, said that currently, only Dong Le Primary School has allowed students to stay home from school due to the impact of floods.

“Yesterday, October 28, 3 schools in Dong Giang ward including Dong Giang Kindergarten, Dong Giang Primary School and Hieu Giang Secondary School were flooded. However, this morning, October 29, the water receded so the schools allowed students to go to school as usual.”

According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Quang Tri province, as of 7:00 a.m. on October 29, the water levels of rivers in the area rose very quickly, with the upstream of most rivers reaching peaks above alert level 3, such as: Sa Lung River measured at Ben Quan exceeded alert level 3 by 4.52 m, exceeding the historical flood peak of 2016 by 1.23 m; downstream rivers reached peaks above alert level 2.

Regarding the flooding situation, Dong Ha City has 41 households flooded in Ward 1 and Ward 5 (flooded from 0.3 to 0.6 m). In addition, some roads were partially flooded. Currently, the water has receded and people have returned home.
