Speaking to supporters after Judge Arthur Engoron handed down the ruling on Friday, Mr Trump said it was part of a plot to prevent him from returning to the White House.

Mr Trump, who is all but certain to be the Republican Party's nominee for president in 2024, told supporters in Michigan that the sentence was "not just an attack on me, but an attack on all Americans".
In the ruling, Judge Engoron also banned Mr. Trump from serving as an officer or director of any corporation in New York for three years.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused Mr Trump and his family businesses of overstating the value of their assets by as much as $3.6 billion a year over a decade to deceive bankers to get better loan terms.
Mr. Trump also faces four state and federal criminal trials, including one scheduled to begin in New York on March 25, on charges that he paid hush money to a porn star.
Mr. Trump is close to clinching the Republican presidential nomination and is likely to face President Joe Biden again in the 2024 US election. He has won recent primaries in the states of Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.
Michigan, where Mr. Trump just spoke, is an important battleground state that could decide the outcome of the US election in November. Hoping to create momentum in this state, Mr. Trump has called on voters to go to the primary for him.
“Remember the primary is Tuesday, February 27th. We need to get out and vote to set the stage for November. Go vote. November 27th,” Trump declared.
