Synchronously deploy the use of E10 gasoline nationwide from January 1, 2026

After the pilot phase in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong with positive signals from consumers, Vietnam is ready in terms of blending and distribution infrastructure, ensuring a synchronous supply of E10 gasoline from January 1, 2026 nationwide.

Speaking at the International Workshop on “Developing biofuels in the new era - key tasks to create a sustainable fuel future in Vietnam” held on August 27, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said that the energy transition towards “greening” to respond to climate change, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and ensure energy security is an inevitable trend and is developing strongly on a global scale.

In that trend, biofuels, especially E10 gasoline, are considered one of the strategic solutions, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the value of the agricultural sector, promoting the development of the green energy industry, and at the same time ensuring national energy security.

From the initial results in supplying E5 gasoline to the market, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed: "Up to now, E10 gasoline has begun to be supplied on a pilot basis in some major cities, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and has initially recorded positive interest from consumers. Key enterprises such as Petrolimex , PVOIL, Saigon Petro... are ready with the infrastructure for blending and distribution, ensuring the synchronous supply of E10 gasoline from January 1, 2026 nationwide".

However, to realize the goal of developing sustainable biofuels, representatives of state management agencies in this field also emphasized that it is necessary to overcome major challenges in technology, policy and market; at the same time, domestic biofuel production capacity is still limited (currently only meeting about 40% of demand, the rest must be imported from the US, Brazil and international partners). This poses an urgent need to expand raw material areas, increase ethanol production capacity, and at the same time build strong and feasible mechanisms and policies to encourage the production, import and strategic reserve of biofuels.
