Ho Chi Minh City sends nearly 300 young doctors to medical stations, including Con Dao special zone

On July 14, Mr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that the health sector will continue to assign 274 young doctors to health stations to increase support for grassroots health care immediately after the merger.

"This is the next stage after the first 6 months of practice at general hospitals - a challenging but extremely valuable journey for young doctors to mature from reality," said Mr. Thuong.

Unlike the previous three courses, course 4 is the first course to apply the 6-3-3-3-3 rotation model, including: the first 6 months at the general hospital, 3 months at the medical station, 3 more months at the hospital, 3 months at the station and the last 3 months at the hospital.

This model helps doctors regularly rotate between hospitals and grassroots levels, understand the health system and improve their ability to adapt to different working environments.

According to the director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, before returning to the health station, all doctors of the 4th course attended a specialized training course on vaccination safety.

Thereby, doctors are fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively perform public health care tasks at the grassroots health level.

To ensure fairness, transparency and objectivity in the assignment, on July 8, the Department of Health organized a lottery to allocate doctors of the 4th course to the health station.

Notably, 21 young doctors proactively registered to work at medical stations in Binh Duong province (old) and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old), of which 2 chose the medical station under the Con Dao Military - Civilian Medical Center.

In addition, 41 young doctors were assigned to medical stations in wards and communes that were previously rarely chosen due to their remote locations such as Can Gio, Thanh An, Cu Chi, Binh My, Hoc Mon, Ba Diem, Binh Chanh, Vinh Loc, etc.

The allocation of doctors from the 4th course to the above health stations not only contributes to improving the quality of primary health care for all people, including in difficult, remote and isolated areas, but is also a positive signal for the policy of attracting medical human resources in difficult areas.

During the internship, the training hospital will support 100% of the internship tuition, equivalent to 3 million VND/month.

When practicing at the medical station, doctors will receive a living allowance of 10 million VND/month, according to the special policy stipulated in Resolution No. 01/2022/NQ-HDND of the City People's Council.

This is the city's practical concern to motivate young doctors to be ready to serve on the front line - the place closest to the people.

Doctors who complete the internship program will be granted a practice license by the Department of Health - a mandatory condition for independent practice under the 2023 Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.

In particular, after completing the program, doctors will be given priority to participate in the "Healthcare Career Fair", which connects with hospitals and medical centers that are in need of recruitment, opening up many job opportunities that match their abilities and aspirations.

"The Department of Health believes that the 274 young doctors of the 4th course will continue to spread the spirit of enthusiasm, responsibility and dedication, contributing to taking care of people's health from the medical stations closest to the people," Mr. Thuong emphasized.
