On the morning of May 24, in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Shanghai held a memorial service and opened a condolence book to commemorate former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong.

All staff of the Consulate General, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Office in Hangzhou, the Vietnam Airlines Branch in China, along with representatives of the Vietnamese community and overseas students in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang respectfully offered incense and observed a minute of silence to commemorate and bid farewell to former President Tran Duc Luong.

Deputy Mayor Giai Dong conveyed his deep condolences and expressed his infinite sorrow to the Party, Government, people of Vietnam and the family of comrade Tran Duc Luong.

She emphasized that comrade Tran Duc Luong was an outstanding leader who made great contributions to the cause of innovation and socialist construction in Vietnam as well as the development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and China.

Ms. Giai Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai City, and other officials visited and signed the condolence book for former President Tran Duc Luong.

Highly appreciating the results achieved in the exchange and cooperation between Shanghai and Vietnam in recent times, Ms. Giai Dong affirmed that the Shanghai government will continue to effectively implement the common perception of the two countries' senior leaders, is ready to further expand exchanges and cooperation, share development experiences with Vietnam, and create the most favorable conditions for the activities of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Shanghai.

On May 24-25, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Government, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries sent wreaths to pay tribute to former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong.
