On the afternoon of June 7, in Hanoi, the Museum of Heritage of Vietnamese Scientists (Meddom) organized a scientific seminar with the theme: "Contributions of Vietnamese scientists in the cause of protecting and building the country". Attending were representatives of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, experts in history, museology and education, scientists...
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa - Director of the Heritage Museum of Vietnamese Scientists said that in the history of the Vietnamese nation, the team of intellectuals and scientists has always been closely associated with the destiny of the country. From the years of resistance against France and the US to the renovation, industrialization - modernization, and deep international integration, Vietnamese scientists have been present in key areas such as national defense, health, agriculture , education, science and technology, etc., making important contributions to the cause of sustainable development of the country.
Sharing about the important contributions of scientists and technologists (KH&CN) in the cause of protecting and building the country, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, cited typical scientific works recorded in history such as: A cluster of works on research and manufacturing weapons during the resistance war against France by Major General Tran Dai Nghia; a cluster of works on Tuberculosis Prevention and Control in Vietnam by Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach; a work on the method of dry liver cutting by Professor Ton That Tung; a work on Investigation of malaria mosquitoes in Vietnam and Preparation of Penicillin solution for wound treatment during the resistance war against France by Professor Dang Van Ngu; a cluster of works on Research, selection and development of Soc Trang fragrant rice varieties: ST24 and SS25 in the period of 2008-2016 by engineer Ho Quang Cua; a work by Professor, Doctor Luong Dinh Cua on selecting high-yield spring and summer-autumn rice varieties, initiating the movement of intensive cultivation of 5 tons of rice/ha in the North...
Among those outstanding works, many scientists and works were recognized by the Party and State and awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology.
Dr. Phan Xuan Dung affirmed that the team of scientists and workers in the Vietnamese science and technology sector have accompanied the country and people throughout history, making a great and valuable contribution to the cause of national liberation and reunification; rebuilding the country after reunification; innovating, promoting industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration.

Speaking at the seminar, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Council of Professors of Agriculture - Forestry, highlighted the contributions of scientists in the agricultural field such as teacher and scientist Luong Dinh Cua, who successfully bred a number of rice varieties with high yield and good quality; Prof. Dr. Vu Tuyen Hoang, a great domestic and international geneticist; Prof. Bui Huy Dap, who invented the spring rice crop with short, high-yield, and resistant rice varieties, creating a revolution in crop season, productivity and output for Vietnamese rice.
From the achievements of scientists of previous generations, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien proposed: In the future, the agricultural sector needs to focus on applying 4.0 technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and biotechnology to agriculture to increase productivity, reduce costs, and be environmentally friendly. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in applied agricultural science research, build high-tech agricultural centers in key areas, and develop smart agricultural models that adapt to climate change.
At the seminar, the presentations of scientists not only clarified the typical contributions of scientists in each historical period (from 1945 to present) but also analyzed the lessons, spiritual values and scientific personality that need to be continued and spread to the younger generation.
Established in 2007, the Center - Museum of Heritage of Vietnamese Scientists is the first non-public museum in Vietnam specializing in collecting, preserving and introducing the heritage of Vietnamese scientists. Over the past 18 years of establishment and development, the museum has approached and worked with more than 7,000 scientists in many fields, collecting more than 1 million documents and artifacts, including rare collections with profound historical, academic and humanistic values.
In 2016, the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Museum opened its doors to visitors at the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park (Bac Phong Commune, Cao Phong District, Hoa Binh Province). With an area of nearly 30 hectares, this space was built as a cultural - educational - scientific experience complex, both preserving the intellectual heritage and inspiring the public, especially the young generation.
Thematic exhibitions organized by the Museum such as: "Aspiration to learn and create" (2014), "Deep in every souvenir" (2018), "Geological career stories" (2019), "Forever burning passions", "Science: Creativity and dedication" (2020) ... are all highly appreciated by the public for their depth of content, creative expression and educational effectiveness. Tens of thousands of visitors, students and pupils have come to the Park every year to visit, study and exchange, contributing to arousing the love of science and the ideal of dedication to the country.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa shared: “It is time for us to emphasize more the historical role of scientists in the development process of the country. They are not only people who contribute with their expertise and knowledge, but also living examples of personality, dedication, and aspiration to contribute silently but greatly. The museum wishes to inspire that to the public today, especially the younger generation.”
According to Professor Nguyen Anh Tri, Chairman of the Medlatec Group Advisory Board and founder of the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Museum, the reports at the seminar have systematized the contributions of scientists by field, which is very valuable for the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Museum to organize the exhibition "Imprints of Vietnamese scientists in the cause of protecting and building the country" scheduled to open on August 16 at the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park in Binh Duong province.
