According to Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the Chinese National People's Congress , DeepSeek's progress reflects the rise of Chinese companies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Responding to a question about China's progress in AI today (March 4), the spokesman for the Chinese National People's Congress, Lou Qinjian, said that what DeepSeek's young team has achieved is a "commendable" achievement.

DeepSeek's progress demonstrates the rise of China's artificial intelligence industry.

"DeepSeek adheres to an open-source approach and promotes the widespread application of AI technology globally, thereby contributing Chinese wisdom to the world . Through the rise of companies like DeepSeek, we can see the innovation and inclusiveness of China's technological development," said Lou Qinjian.

AI startup DeepSeek has been hailed in China since it shocked the global tech scene by releasing AI models that cost a fraction of those being developed by U.S. rivals like OpenAI. DeepSeek’s progress sparked a $1 trillion sell-off in tech stocks around the world.

While some governments like South Korea and Italy have removed DeepSeek's chatbot from national app stores citing privacy concerns, it has been well received in China, with local governments and tech companies integrating it into their systems and products.

Late last month, DeepSeek announced plans to accelerate the release of its R2 model, originally scheduled for May, which aims to improve multilingual coding and reasoning capabilities.

The release of DeepSeek's R2 model is likely to raise concerns for the US government, as it could help cement China's leadership in AI.

DeepSeek, founded by billionaire Liang Wenfeng of venture capital fund High-Flyer, has been quietly gaining traction, with a host of Chinese businesses across various sectors integrating DeepSeek's AI models.
