To concretize the Government's determination and policy, the Party Committee of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee identified one of the key goals in the 2025-2030 term as developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector.

In particular, the province focuses on developing green tourism , promoting its existing advantages in nature and culture, making Lang Son a model of zero-emission tourism - an inevitable trend on the tourism map of Vietnam in the coming time.

After 40 minutes of traveling on Provincial Road 243 connecting National Highway 1 to Huu Lien Commune, the green grassland of Dong Lam opens before our eyes a cool space of lakes, mountains and clouds. In the summer, this place turns into a large lake. Coming to Dong Lam, visitors can enjoy many interesting travel experiences such as kayaking, diving on the vast water carpet or participating in agricultural activities such as picking persimmons and custard apples in the orchards.

According to comrade Nguyen Quang Hoa, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Huu Lien commune, every summer and autumn, Dong Lam grassland welcomes a remarkable increase in the number of tourists. Coming here, besides immersing themselves in nature, visitors can also immerse themselves in the indigenous cultural life, learn more about the unique cultural features of the Tay, Nung, Dao ethnic minorities...

Especially here, tourists visiting the water surface of Dong Lam grassland are moved entirely by rafts made from natural materials such as bamboo, reed, rope, jute... Without the sound of motors or the smell of engine oil, the ink painting of Dong Lam mountains and water seems to be kept intact with its precious poetic, peaceful beauty.

“Currently, there are more than 100 rafts of local people serving tourists to visit Dong Lam grassland, managed at a price of 200,000 VND/hour. This activity not only enhances the experience of tourists but also preserves a sustainable living environment and protects the nature of the people”, Mr. Hoang Cong Lang, Lien Hop village, Huu Lien commune, excitedly said.

Not only building eco-friendly activities, for many years now, accommodation establishments in the area have been popularizing and applying energy-saving models. Most of the accommodation establishments in the area prioritize the use of energy from solar panels, limiting high-power devices such as air conditioners, refrigerators, etc. Instead, fans and refrigerators are arranged appropriately to help save electricity but still provide tourists with comfortable and fresh resting conditions.

Excitedly sharing her two-day, three-night travel experience to the green grasslands of Dong Lam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “The air in Dong Lam is very fresh and gentle. Limiting air conditioning brings many positive effects to the health of children. Sometimes relying too much on technological devices makes us forget about the gifts of nature such as the wind, cool water, how healthy and clean they are.”

Standing proudly on the northeastern border, Lang Son is endowed by nature with majestic limestone mountains and a complex, mysterious cave system that is attractive to tourists who love to explore. Taking advantage of the potential in developing zero-emission tourism, for many years now, adventure tourism has been considered a highlight, part of the development plan for the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark.

The Management Board of Lang Son UNESCO Geopark has coordinated with travel companies to focus on researching, developing and operating in-depth exploration tours and unique geological experiences. The tours are designed according to international standards of safety and conservation, not only helping to enhance the experience but also providing an opportunity for tourists to understand more, thereby loving the land and sky of Lang Son more, building the fundamental value of zero-emission tourism in the most core and sustainable direction.

“The leaders at the provincial and communal levels and the Lang Son Geopark Management Board have shown their concern, created favorable conditions for security and safety, as well as connected with the local community, helping us to gain deeper access to natural and cultural values. Although there are still challenges in the implementation process, the fact that all parties share a vision for sustainable tourism development based on geological resources is very commendable and needs to be further promoted,” said Mr. Pham Van Manh, Director of Vietnam Expeditions Joint Stock Company.

After experiencing the majestic and emotional exploration routes, our next stop on the journey to discover green Lang Son is a special village - Lan Nong village (in Cai Kinh commune). Expected to become the first typical "Net Zero" village in the Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark area, Lan Nong village has 13 households, of which 10 households are living in traditional stilt houses; three households live in wooden houses.

Welcoming us here are the gentle, bright, sincere and hospitable smiles of the Nung mothers and grandmothers. Although it is so poetic, what makes Lan Nong special is its separation from the noisy, bustling life of the city.

“Actually, I didn’t expect much at first, but when I first set foot in Lan Nong, I was captivated. The road to get there was a bit difficult, but the scenery of the mountains and valleys on both sides was beautiful. Everything was slow and quiet, very different from the hustle and bustle of everyday life,” said Le Binh Minh, from Ho Chi Minh City.

Determining that Lan Nong village will be one of the “golden coordinates” on the map of exploring Lang Son Geopark, according to Ms. Pham Thi Huong, Head of Lang Son Geopark Management Department, Lang Son Province Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, affirmed: “In the coming time, the landscape architecture planning design in Lan Nong village will be ensured by environmentally friendly public works, not concreted. The construction process does not impact the environment through the use of prefabricated works, bamboo materials are important criteria throughout the village renovation process”.

With the positive effects achieved, in the coming time, the "Net Zero Village" model will continue to expand to many other potential locations such as Mong An and Mau Son communes, etc.

“Along with that, in the plan to develop zero-emission tourism, we will develop and implement many propaganda contents, raising tourists’ awareness of not littering, emitting smoke, not destroying stalactites… All for the goal of making Lang Son a model of zero-emission tourism on the tourism map of Vietnam,” Ms. Huong added.

It can be seen that zero-emission tourism is not only an inevitable trend but also an opportunity for potential localities such as Lang Son to affirm their position on the national tourism map. With the joint efforts of management agencies and local people, Lang Son promises to have strong changes, constantly preserve and develop, becoming a living proof of the ability to connect people-nature-culture, contributing to opening a new direction for Vietnam tourism.
