Actively build the General Education Program for Raglai Language

The Ministry of Education and Training has issued Plan No. 448/KH-BGDDT on developing the RagLai Language General Education Program; establishing the Steering Committee and Secretariat; and establishing the RagLai Language Program Development Committee.

The survey toolkit on the current status of RagLai language use in two provinces ( Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa) - where many students are RagLai ethnic people - was also developed by the Ministry of Education and Training in collaboration with experts.

Together with synthesizing the assessment report on the practical implementation of the use of RagLai language in the above two provinces, the Ministry of Education and Training organized two expert workshops to assess the current situation of RagLai language use, propose content and solutions to build a RagLai language program in general schools.

The Ministry of Education and Training also coordinated with the Institute of Linguistics to assess the characteristics of the RagLai language and script, the issue of preserving and promoting the role and identity of the RagLai language and script in life and in general schools; coordinated with the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences to assess the current status of RagLai language use and make recommendations.

Teaching ethnic minority languages is a major policy of the Party and State to preserve and promote the linguistic and cultural values of ethnic minorities.

The State encourages and creates favorable conditions for ethnic minority high school students who wish and need to learn ethnic minority languages.

Ethnic minority languages are identified as subjects, using optional time appropriate to the grade level in the general education program. Teaching ethnic minority languages is regulated in each ethnic minority language program issued by the Minister of Education and Training.

Conditions for organizing teaching and procedures for introducing ethnic minority languages into teaching at general education institutions shall comply with Government regulations.

On February 27, 2022, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 142/QD-TTg, approving the Program "Improving the quality of teaching ethnic minority languages in the General Education Program for the period 2021-2030". It sets the goal of issuing at least 1 ethnic minority language program by 2025 to be taught in general schools.
