Technology diplomacy at its core
Da Nang has identified economic diplomacy as one of its key economic sectors. In particular, it focuses on promoting technological diplomacy, considering it the core and breakthrough for economic diplomacy in the new era. With this spirit, the city's foreign affairs sector proactively and actively promotes and connects leading corporations and enterprises in the fields of high technology, semiconductor industry, and artificial intelligence (AI) to Da Nang to explore investment and cooperation opportunities.
Many delegations of city leaders have gone to promote and attract investment in key markets such as Switzerland, the United States, the UAE, Singapore, the UK, Germany, South Korea, and China. After these business trips, many leading enterprises and corporations in the semiconductor industry have decided to open offices in Da Nang.
As of June 2025, the city has 23 microchip enterprises. The city recognized FPT Corporation and Marvell Vietnam Technology Company Limited as strategic partners in the field of semiconductor microchips and AI.
The recognition of Marvell Technology Vietnam Co., Ltd. as the first foreign-invested strategic partner will pave the way, encourage and create confidence for subsequent foreign-invested enterprises.
The presence of leading semiconductor companies such as Synopsys and Marvell in Da Nang is the clearest evidence of the city’s potential and opportunities to deeply participate in the global semiconductor supply chain. At the same time, many foreign partners have expressed their interest and desire to explore investment opportunities in the field of the International Financial Center and Da Nang Free Trade Zone.
Da Nang is increasingly affirming its brand as a safe and attractive investment destination for domestic and foreign investors. FDI capital is continuously poured into the city by investors.
At the conference “Meeting Japan in Da Nang” on July 4, Mr. Hirayama Keiji, Chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Da Nang (JCCID), said that Da Nang city has always been an attractive investment destination for many foreign investors, including the Japanese business community. Businesses have high expectations for the Da Nang city government to promote administrative procedure reform, create favorable conditions and support businesses when they encounter difficulties.
To date, the city has attracted more than 1,260 FDI projects with a total registered investment capital of more than 10.9 billion USD. In the first six months of the year, the city granted 47 new FDI projects, an increase of 14.6%. The increase in the number and scale of FDI projects shows that the investment attraction policy is really effective, especially in improving infrastructure, administrative procedures and supporting businesses.
Diversify investment promotion methods
Recently, the city has breathed new life into its investment promotion efforts, creating a breakthrough in on-site investment promotion; creatively and skillfully turning events and festivals celebrating diplomatic relations into ideal bridges for foreign strategic investors to meet and explore investment and cooperation opportunities with Da Nang. A typical example is the Forum of Friendship and Cooperation Cities - Da Nang 2025, which attracted nearly 500 domestic and foreign partners to attend.
At the forum, the city signed agreements to establish friendship and cooperation with Aktau city (Kazakhstan) and Genoa city (Italy). In addition, investment certificates were granted to the following projects: Heineken Vietnam Factory expansion project; Aeon Mall Da Nang Commercial Center project (Thanh Khe); Dentium Vietnam investment project...
Or at the ASEAN Meeting in Da Nang in 2025, the Da Nang Tourism Association signed two cooperation agreements in the tourism sector with the Malaysian Tourism Association and the Calabarzon Travel Association (Philippines), opening up opportunities for Da Nang to become a world-class tourism center in Southeast Asia by 2030. Within the framework of the recent Vietnam - Japan and Vietnam - Korea Festivals in 2025, the city proactively connected and attracted many Korean and Japanese businesses in the city's key sectors through seminars on tourism promotion, investment attraction and science - technology cooperation.
Each forum and event achieved positive results in all three pillars: political diplomacy, economic diplomacy and cultural diplomacy. Thereby affirming the role and position of Da Nang city on the international cooperation map; at the same time, contributing to promoting and spreading the city's image to the world.
The city has maximized bilateral cooperation programs to exploit economic diplomacy; established friendly and cooperative relations with 60 localities of 24 countries and territories. These results show that Da Nang is deeply realizing the spirit of proactiveness, creativity and advancement in the process of global integration; gradually putting Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation into practice.
Da Nang has been implementing many inter-sectoral and inter-sectoral solutions, in which the Da Nang City International Cooperation and Integration Project to 2030 is considered a guideline for the city to focus on promoting potential markets and fields to 2030. The project identifies goals to help the city take advantage of external resources and promote internal resources to develop strongly in the period from now to 2030, closely connecting with provinces and cities in the region, leading the Central and Central Highlands regions to develop together.
