According to Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, President of the Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that the Vietnam - Philippines relationship has increasingly developed comprehensively and substantially since the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2015.
Vietnam is currently the largest rice supplier to the Philippines, making a practical contribution to ensuring regional food security. Defense, security and joint maritime patrol cooperation is increasingly expanded, substantive and trustworthy. People-to-people,educational and cultural exchanges are constantly developing, with thousands of students and experts from both countries studying and working in each country.

In Ho Chi Minh City, where there is a large Filipino community, the Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City has closely coordinated with the Honorary Consul General of the Philippines, schools and business associations of the Philippines to organize many cultural and educational exchange activities, contributing to enhancing understanding and solidarity between the people of the two countries.
Ms. Xuan said that Vietnam and the Philippines need to continue to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN community, especially in the fields of maritime affairs, education, and people-to-people exchange - pillars that help build trust and move towards a people-centered ASEAN community.
VOV quoted Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Meynardo Los Banos Montealegre as saying that 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Philippines Strategic Partnership and 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two sides are working to promote bilateral trade turnover to reach the target of 10 billion USD. In 2024, Vietnam and the Philippines signed many important cooperation documents in areas such as agriculture, trade, rice, culture and maritime.
Cooperation continues to expand at all levels, especially in defense, agriculture , education, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. The increasing number of direct flights between the two countries facilitates connectivity and cooperation.
There are currently about 7,000 Filipino citizens living and working in Vietnam, mainly in Ho Chi Minh City, the country's leading dynamic economic center. Philippine businesses also maintain stable operations and continue to expand investment in the Vietnamese market.
Ambassador Montealegre said that in the coming time, the Philippine Embassy will organize a business delegation to Ho Chi Minh City to connect trade and at the same time encourage investment promotion delegations from Ho Chi Minh City to the Philippines.
Previously, on the occasion of the 127th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of the Philippines (June 12, 1898 - June 12, 2025), the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam sent congratulatory messages to senior leaders of the Philippines. President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent congratulatory messages to President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent congratulatory messages to House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Senate President Francis Escudero.
