Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hopes that journalists, the future owners of the country's press, will always uphold the core qualities of revolutionary journalists.

Speaking at the 2025 “Outstanding Young Journalists” Award Ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed great expectations for the team of young journalists - the vanguard soldiers on the ideological and cultural front in the period of digital transformation and deep international integration.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son was moved when reviewing the 100-year history of the formation and development of Vietnam's revolutionary press - originating from Thanh Nien newspaper founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc and President Ho Chi Minh . "Vietnam's revolutionary press carries a historical mission - to be a torch to light the way, a sharp ideological weapon, gathering and encouraging the nation and compatriots in the cause of regaining national independence, building and defending the Fatherland," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Through the ups and downs of national history, generations of revolutionary journalists have always been pioneers, persistent and courageous on all fronts - from the Viet Bac resistance base to the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, from the legendary Truong Son road to construction sites and factories during the Doi Moi period. Their pens not only recorded history but also contributed to creating history, lighting the flame of patriotism, spreading the desire for peace, the spirit of creativity and constant innovation.

At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his confidence and great expectations for today's young journalists - those who are continuing the glorious tradition of Vietnam's revolutionary press in a new context full of challenges but also full of opportunities.

The Deputy Prime Minister shared: “Young journalists need to always maintain three core qualities: Pure heart - Bright mind - Sharp pen". "Pure heart" to serve the Fatherland and the people selflessly, without profit. "Bright mind" to correctly identify the nature of things, not to be led by false and harmful information. And "Sharp pen" to protect the truth, justice, fight uncompromisingly against negativity, corruption, waste - contributing to building a democratic, rule of law and civilized society".

The Deputy Prime Minister also called on young journalists to become pioneers on the digital transformation front, making the most of technological advantages to master digital platforms, develop multimedia journalism, and bring information to the public in a quick, creative, attractive and effective manner. At the same time, each young journalist needs to be a soldier in the fight against fake news, toxic news, contributing to cleaning up cyberspace and building a safe and healthy information environment.

Affirming that journalism is a profession that requires lifelong learning and training, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized: “Each young journalist needs to proactively cultivate knowledge of politics, economics, culture, and law, grasp the country’s realities and international current events; improve foreign language proficiency and professional skills to be able to work effectively in a globalized environment.”

According to the Deputy Prime Minister , professional qualities, impartiality, objectivity and a sense of responsibility are the "treasures" that help journalists stand firm in the face of all temptations and pressures, keeping their pens as tools to serve the people, reflect the truth and protect what is right.

At the ceremony, 50 outstanding young journalists of 2025 - representing many press and media agencies in the Government sector - were honored. Among them were 3 young female reporters from the Government Electronic Information Portal. Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed: “These are all outstanding individuals, typical representatives of a new generation of journalists who are dynamic, creative, enthusiastic and responsible for the country. Today's honor is a worthy reward for their tireless efforts, but at the same time, it is also the beginning of a journey of greater responsibility.”

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that from today's "launch pad", young journalists will continue to fly high and far, becoming key writers, influential journalists, contributing to building a Vietnamese revolutionary press that is increasingly professional, humane and modern - worthy of being the core force in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in an era of strong and prosperous development.

Looking to the future, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed: In the context of the country entering a new stage of development - the era of deep international integration, the fourth industrial revolution and the aspiration to become a developed country by 2045 - the press must continue to play the role of a mainstream, reliable information stream, honestly reflecting the situation of the country, orienting public opinion, spreading good values, promoting reform, and improving the investment and business environment. "The press not only reports news but also directly participates in the process of institution building, removing policy bottlenecks, accompanying the Government and people to create an innovative, creative, humane and integrated Vietnam."
