General Nguyen Chi Thanh was born on January 1, 1914 in Niem Pho village, Quang Tho commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien province (now Quang Dien commune, Hue city). Born and raised in a country under slavery, the people were miserable and suffering, he soon became enlightened and participated in the revolutionary movement.

He was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party when he was just over 20 years old and was entrusted with many important responsibilities of the Party, State and army. The name and career of General Nguyen Chi Thanh are always associated with the victory of the Vietnamese revolution and the growth of the Vietnam People's Army.
