Recalling batch of cream advertised 'for smooth, white skin as bright as the Sun'

The Ministry of Health has requested a nationwide recall of a batch of Turmeric Cream E150 - Box of 1 tube of 20g labeled "For smooth, white skin as bright as the Sun", "removes dark spots"; "helps eliminate acne".

On August 28, the Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ) announced that it had just issued a decision to suspend circulation and recall nationwide the product batch of Turmeric Cream E150 - Box of 1 tube of 20g , announcement receipt number 287/22/CBMP-BN, Batch number: 01, production date January 2, 2024; expiry date January 1, 2029.

The organization responsible for bringing the product to market is Tan Ha Lan Company Limited (address: No. 8, Group 13, Cluster III, Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi ). The branch of Tan Ha Lan Company Limited in Bac Ninh (Lot F1, Dong Tho Multi-Craft Industrial Cluster, Van Mon Commune, Bac Ninh Province) produces.

The reason for the recall was that the product batch had labels and instructions containing phrases that were inconsistent with the features and uses of the cosmetic product and the information on the Declaration Form.

Specifically, the product label reads “For smooth, white skin as bright as the Sun”, “natural vitamin E”; box label: “removes dark spots”; tube label: “helps eliminate acne”, “removes stretch marks, eliminates dark spots”.

The product sample also bears the name of the Company responsible for bringing the product to market, which does not meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health .

On the same day, the Drug Administration Department suspended circulation and recalled nationwide the product batch Sofpaifa - Box of 1 tube of 5g . The label states: Receipt number of announcement form: 002220/20/CBMP-HCM; Batch number: 0010724; production date July 16, 2024; expiry date July 16, 2027. This product is introduced as a cream to help with itching caused by mosquito and ant bites.

Responsible for bringing the product to market and manufacturing is Quang Minh Pharmaceutical Trading Joint Stock Company (No. 4A Lo Lu, Long Phuoc Ward, HCMC).

The reason for the recall is that the labels and instructions for use of the product batch contain phrases and images that do not match the features and uses of the cosmetic product and the information on the declaration form, specifically as follows: using the phrases "Cream for itching caused by mosquito, ant, etc. bites", "Effectively used on itching caused by insects: mosquitoes, fire ants, bedbugs, fleas, ticks, caterpillars, leeches, jellyfish, bees, etc. bites", "has anti-itch, antiseptic, and skin-soothing properties".

The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Department of Health of provinces and cities to notify businesses and cosmetic users in the area to immediately stop selling and using the above batch of Turmeric Cream E150 - Box of 1 tube of 20g and the above batch of Sofpaifa - Box of 1 tube of 5g, return them to the product supplier; and recall the violating batch of products.
