Taking us to visit the banana plantations of many households in the commune, Mr. Han Quang Vinh - Director of Quynh Lam Agricultural Service Cooperative, shared: Bananas are planted in rows, evenly and straight. Currently, the Cooperative has nearly 800 members associated with banana consumption, with a total banana cultivation area of nearly 30 hectares of bananas, of which 6 hectares are grown according to VietGAP standards, 20 hectares of bananas. The largest household has nearly 2 hectares. Bananas from planting to harvesting in a year. Bananas are mainly planted at the beginning of the year to sell on the occasion of Lunar New Year, so around January and February of the lunar calendar, people start digging cuttings and planting bananas. When the price is good, a bunch of bananas costs 500,000 VND - 1 million VND.
Banana growing model brings stable income to Mr. Dang Van Tan - member of Quynh Lam Agricultural Service Cooperative, Ban Nguyen commune.
Ban Nguyen bananas are considered to have a delicious, sweet and nutritious taste compared to other types of bananas. When green, the banana peel is attached to the fruit, but when it is ripe, the peel will automatically separate and peel off easily. When ripe, the banana flesh turns golden yellow like chicken fat, giving off a pleasant sweet aroma. When eaten, the fruit flesh is chewy and fatty, with a sweet taste lingering on the tip of the tongue. Bananas are good for health, with many effects such as: Supplementing nutrients, anti-oxidation, good for digestion, stabilizing blood pressure, cardiovascular system...
In the middle of the vast green banana fields, members of the cooperative are diligently taking care of them with the joy of promising good growth, quality fruit bunches, beautiful appearance, and a good price for the harvest this year during Tet. Mr. Nguyen Khac Dung in zone 13 excitedly said: This strip of land along the river is for us farmers to grow bananas and vegetables, in which the top priority is growing bananas with an area of nearly 1 hectare. Thanks to the correct application of techniques, the products are of good quality, favored by customers, and are mainly sold during Tet, so the price is quite high. Each sao currently grows about 90 trees, the fruiting rate is nearly 70%, there is no need to worry about the output of the products, traders come to the garden to buy. In particular, during the period from planting to harvesting, my family also intercrops other vegetables to increase income and improve life.
With many years of experience growing bananas, always researching and experimenting with new methods, Mr. Han Hung Dung in Zone 7 said: Currently, my family grows nearly 1 hectare of bananas, earning an average income of more than 100 million VND/year. Bananas are easy to grow, suitable for alluvial and sandy soils, easily adaptable to all weather conditions, and do not require much care. To ensure that the banana bunch meets quality and appearance standards, when the bananas are fully in bloom, people start to cut off the tops and shape the bunches, leaving only 8-10 bunches per bunch, then wrapping them in plastic to prevent insects from entering the bananas, and especially tying them up so that the tree does not fall.
Due to the impact of weather factors, bananas and plantains have seasonal deliciousness and sweetness, so bananas are popular in winter, plantains are popular in summer, these two types of bananas are harvested out of season so banana growers have products to sell all year round.
With the trend of modern agriculture, it is very important for producers to prove the origin of their products. The cooperative strives to maintain its reputation and build its brand for long-term business and sustainable development, from the production process to follow VietGAP standards and issue growing area codes. Up to now, the Ban Nguyen Banana product has been granted a collective trademark certificate by the Department of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology and the product has achieved 3-star OCOP certification. This is one of the important solutions to protect rights as well as create value for local agricultural products.
Bananas of Quynh Lam Agricultural Service Cooperative, Ban Nguyen Commune have now become one of the production linkage models bringing large income to members and cooperatives, which are being studied and replicated by many localities. This is a right direction in rural economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction, job creation and income increase for farmers; actively contributing to the program of developing commodity agriculture, promoting stable and sustainable development of the local economy .
