World gold price today

In the world gold market, the spot gold price today is at 3,369.8 USD/ounce. The world gold price generally decreased by 0.07% in the past 24 hours, equivalent to a decrease of 2.5 USD/ounce.

With the domestic gold bar price anchored at a high level and the world gold price listed at Kitco at 3,369.8 USD/ounce (equivalent to about 108.1 million VND/tael converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, excluding taxes and fees), the difference between domestic and world gold prices is about 18.5 million VND/tael.

The world gold market ended last week with an increase in price after US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell gave a speech that investors assessed as paving the way for the possibility of cutting interest rates as early as September 2025.

Gold prices have fluctuated strongly in the past week.

Before the weekend breakout, gold prices had been volatile over the past week. At the beginning of the week, gold was under pressure from the strengthening US dollar, hitting its lowest level since early August when it retreated to around $3,317/ounce. Cautious sentiment prevailed as investors awaited Mr. Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole Conference.

On August 20, gold prices recovered 0.9% to $3,344.37/ounce as the greenback weakened, and continued to increase until the weekend session on August 22.

Forecasting the gold trend, Alex Kuptsikevich - Market Analyst at online financial trading unit FxPro, said the gold market is in a delicate balance, trading in a wide range. "The Fed may ease policy in September, but then pause. This delay may cause investors to return to the USD," Alex Kuptsikevich predicted.

Chantelle Schieven, head of research at financial research provider Capitalight Research, said gold prices remain well supported but gains may be limited as the September rate cut has already been partly priced in.

“What could get the gold market more excited is a change in tone from the Fed, focusing more on the weakening labor market and less on inflation,” the expert noted.

The CME's FedWatch tool shows the market is pricing in at least one more rate cut before the end of the year.

Next week, investors will be looking forward to a series of US economic data, including: New home sales (Monday), durable goods orders and consumer confidence index (Tuesday), preliminary second-quarter GDP, weekly jobless claims and pending home sales (Thursday). Most notably, the PCE inflation report and personal income and spending data will be released on Friday. These will be important indicators to help the market further shape the US economic outlook and the Fed's policy direction.

World oil prices

Oil prices are forecast to fluctuate within a narrow range but tend to increase slightly due to a surprise drop in US crude oil reserves and market uncertainties surrounding the prospect of peace between Russia and Ukraine.

According to Oilprice, at 5:15 a.m. on August 25 (Vietnam time), Brent oil price increased by 0.13 USD/barrel (equivalent to 0.19%), to 67.86 USD/barrel; WTI oil price increased by 0.14 USD/barrel (equivalent to 0.22%), to 63.80 USD/barrel.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), US crude oil inventories fell sharply by 6 million barrels in the week ending August 15, much higher than the 1.8 million barrel decrease forecast by analysts and the 2.4 million barrel figure previously given by the American Petroleum Institute, thereby showing a sharp increase in oil demand.

This tight inventory level is contrary to the forecast of surplus supply in 2026 by both the IEA and EIA, challenging the general expectations in the market, said analyst Alex Hodes at commodity brokerage StoneX.

Oil prices are expected to fluctuate within a narrow range but tend to increase slightly.

In addition, the oil market also reacted to the news that the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have stalled. Meanwhile, Western countries have also begun discussing military options to support Ukraine. Geopolitical tensions continue to put great pressure on the energy market.

There is still uncertainty around the possibility of a ceasefire, with talks not moving as quickly as the market had hoped, according to Phil Flynn, senior analyst at Price Futures Group.

Another factor weighing on the oil market was that U.S. energy companies last week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating. The U.S. rig count fell for the fourth week in five weeks, to 538, the lowest since mid-July, according to Reuters.

Investors also turned their attention to the Jackson Hole conference, where Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at a possible interest rate cut next month to support growth. Lower interest rates could stimulate energy consumption, thereby providing an additional boost to oil prices.

Domestic gasoline prices

Domestic retail prices of gasoline on August 25 are as follows:

- E5RON92 gasoline: No higher than 19,464 VND/liter

- RON95-III gasoline: No higher than VND 20,092/liter

- Diesel 0.05S: Not higher than 17,905 VND/liter

- Kerosene: Not higher than 17,814 VND/liter

- Mazut oil 180CST 3.5S: Not higher than 15,116 VND/kg

In response to recent developments in world petroleum product prices, the above domestic petroleum retail prices were adjusted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance from the afternoon of August 21. Accordingly, gasoline prices increased, oil prices decreased. E5RON92 gasoline prices increased by VND110/liter, RON95-III gasoline increased by VND208/liter, diesel oil decreased by VND172/liter, kerosene decreased by VND206/liter, and fuel oil decreased by VND152/kg.

In this operating period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance did not set aside or use the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, and fuel oil.
