This morning (June 26), more than 1.16 million candidates nationwide will take the literature exam for the 2025 high school graduation exam. This afternoon, candidates will take the math exam.

Yesterday (June 25), candidates went to the examination councils to complete exam procedures and correct errors (if any).

Two different groups of subjects

The 2025 high school graduation exam is the most special exam ever, with two exam subjects taking the exam according to two different exam regulations and two different sets of exam questions.

Nationwide, there are over 1.16 million candidates taking the high school graduation exam, of which nearly 26,000 candidates are taking the exam under the 2006 generaleducation program (2006 program) and 1.13 million candidates are taking the exam under the 2018 general education program (2018 program). For the first time, the high school graduation exam has two regulations and two sets of exam questions for two exam subjects (please see graphic).

Except for the essay test in literature, all other tests/exams for both groups of candidates are multiple choice. However, the multiple choice test for candidates taking the 2006 program will have additional multiple choice formats. In addition to the multiple choice 1 test format, there are other formats such as true or false test and short answer test.

The literature exam for candidates taking the 2018 program will not use materials from the program - textbooks. In geography, candidates in this group are also not allowed to bring geography atlases into the exam room.

The two types of candidates must also comply with regulations with different content. Specifically, candidates taking the 2006 program who only take the component subjects in the combined exam only need to be present 10 minutes before the exam time for that subject.

Candidates studying the 2018 program in the optional subject exam session must be present from the beginning of the exam session and gather in the waiting room arranged by the exam site to wait until they can take their exam (the exam session has many optional subjects, according to the candidate's registration).

The break time between two subjects in the combined test/selected test for the two groups of candidates is also different. Specifically, the break time between the component subjects of the combined test for candidates according to the 2006 program is 10 minutes.

The break time between exams of the optional exam for candidates according to the 2018 program is 15 minutes.

For officials participating in this year's exam, the work to be handled is more complicated, especially at exam locations with both types of candidates.

What should I pay attention to to avoid violations and losing points?

Candidates must carefully read and remember information about the test site, test site address, test schedule and time to be present at the test site.

According to the regulations, candidates who arrive more than 15 minutes late after the test start time will not be allowed to take the exam that day. Candidates taking the exam for graduation but do not take a subject/exam due to being late or being suspended from the exam will not be eligible for graduation.

Before entering the examination room, candidates must present their exam card (received on the day of examination procedures); in case of loss of exam card, candidates can present their citizen identification card. If they also lose their identification documents, candidates must talk to the supervisor to get a written commitment to be allowed to take the exam.

Candidates are only allowed to bring into the examination room pens, rulers, pencils, squares, graphing rulers, drawing tools, calculators without word processing functions, and memory cards.

Candidates are prohibited from bringing into the examination room/waiting room carbon paper, erasers, alcoholic beverages, weapons, explosives, flammable substances, documents, communication equipment (receiving, broadcasting information, recording audio, video) or containing fraudulent information during the examination.

Candidates must sit in their correct seats according to their registration numbers. Do not move around or talk to other candidates. During the exam, if you need to ask a question, raise your hand and wait for the invigilator's permission.

Before taking the test, candidates must remember to fill in their information completely on the test paper, test paper, multiple-choice answer sheet, and scratch paper. When receiving the test, immediately check the page number and test code (for multiple-choice tests) on each page to ensure consistency.

If you find that the test paper is blurred, torn, or damaged, you must notify the invigilator within 5 minutes before the test starts. Essay tests must only be written in blue or black ink, and must not be marked or have any special symbols.

How to use the results for university admission?

Depending on the admission plan of the universities, candidates can register for admission to majors/schools with the results of graduation exam subject combinations or combine the results of exam subject combinations with high school grades (report cards), international language certificates, international competency assessment test scores, competency assessment test scores, and thinking assessment test scores organized by some universities.

In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will abolish the regulation on early admission (no more early admission). After receiving the high school graduation exam scores, candidates will register their admission wishes on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will have some adjustments in calculating graduation scores.

Accordingly, the calculation of high school graduation scores in 2025 is as follows:

Graduation score = [(total score of 4 subjects/4 + total incentive score (if any))/4] + average score of all school years] : 2 + priority score (if any).

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates who are eligible to take the exam, have not been disciplined to have their exam results canceled, and have a graduation score of 5 points or higher will be recognized as graduating from high school. In particular, all exams and subjects must achieve a score of more than 1 point on a 10-point scale.

Compared to 2024, the graduation score calculation formula this year has adjusted the ratio of average school year score and exam score (50/50). And the case of foreign language exemption is not converted to 10 points as before.

The principal noted "5 no's" for candidates.

Principal of Chu Van An High School ( Hanoi ), Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhiep, reminded students of the "5 no's" to remember for the 2025 high school graduation exam:

1. DO NOT bring prohibited items into the exam room.

2. DO NOT stay up late, skip meals or otherwise harm your health before the exam day.

3. DO NOT be late, absent or drop out of the exam without a valid reason.

4. DO NOT leave early when there is still time left.

5. DO NOT forget the pioneering mission, compete with intelligence and honesty.

Scenario ready for heavy rain, flooding...

Hanoi is the locality with the largest number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam this year in the country, with more than 124,000 candidates, an increase of over 15,000 compared to last year. At the exam registration session, candidates were instructed on where to put their belongings before entering the exam room.

The exam steering committee also has scenarios ready for situations of heavy rain, local flooding, power outages, traffic jams, disease outbreaks, etc.; arranges rescue forces, health care, and supports candidates to get to the exam site safely.

At the exam registration session, candidate Vuong Tien Doan, a La Chi ethnic, said that because his house is 22km from the school, he has not returned home since the end of the school year, and decided to stay in a boarding house near the school to focus on studying for the exam with his friends.

"I feel quite comfortable now, just waiting for the official exam time," Doan said.

According to Mr. Pham Manh Hung - Vice Principal of Son Dong High School No. 3 (Bac Giang), due to the impact of heavy rain at the end of June, the school sent 3 teachers and about 20-30 parents to Cam Dan Secondary School, about 20km away from the school, to support candidates taking the 2025 high school graduation exam.

Mr. Hung said that the time when students take the exam is usually during the rainy season. To ensure the safety of the candidates, to avoid any unexpected events, especially for those who are far from home and have to cross rivers, streams, and culverts, the school and parents agreed to rent a car to take all the students to the above school location for accommodation.

Previously, Son Dong High School No. 3 had worked with the Cam Dan Commune Party Committee to arrange medical staff and police to support students taking the exam at the school. Knowing that the students were coming to take the exam, the surrounding households also brought local products such as lychees and clean vegetables to support the "field" kitchen run by the parents.

Mr. Bach Dang Khoa, deputy director of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Giang, said the department has directed units to compile detailed statistics on students who may be separated by storms and floods.

For small areas, the test sites proactively take candidates to the highest scores closest to the test sites, most conveniently. For large units, the school arranges accommodation to ensure suitability to reality such as houses of residents, educational facilities around the school.

Ensuring electricity for Phu Quy island students to take the exam

On the afternoon of June 25, candidates in Phu Quy island district (Binh Thuan) went to Ngo Quyen High School to complete exam procedures.

Principal of Ngo Quyen High School, Mr. Nguyen Hai Tho, said that because the exam was held on the island, both candidates and parents felt more comfortable, instead of going to the mainland like in previous years.

For the invigilators from the mainland who came to the island to supervise the exam, Mr. Tho said that the most convenient hotel had been arranged. The power grid system on the island is still lacking compared to the mainland, so the school has coordinated with Phu Quy Electricity to survey and evaluate the power system to ensure safety during operation.

The school also coordinates with the police stationed on the island to inspect fire prevention and fighting, security and order.
