On the morning of March 30, at Bach Viet Polytechnic College, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union to organize the final round of the restaurant service industry. This is the 15th time the vocational competition for students studying at vocationaltraining institutions in Ho Chi Minh City has been organized to practice skills, compete and learn.
In the restaurant service competition, there were 6 finalists. They participated in 3 competitions, including making drinks, handling unexpected situations when serving customers and the final competition was directly serving customers at the table.
In addition to teachers and lecturers from vocational colleges, the jury also includes chefs and representatives of famous hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, where restaurant service students may work in the future.
After an impressive bartending competition with a drink called “brilliant sunset”, contestant Nguyen Son Nghi (19 years old) from Bach Viet Polytechnic College said that he is currently a first-year student majoring in restaurant service. This is a drink that he invented himself, inspired by the brilliant colors of the sunset and he hopes that this drink can conquer many diners. In addition to the self-mixing drink competition, contestants also had to solve behavioral questions about unexpected situations in the restaurant.
As a judge of the competition, Mr. Pham Vu Hiep, who works at Rex Hotel, one of the largest and oldest hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, said he was very impressed with the contestants' performance. According to Mr. Hiep, vocational students with such abilities will be a very good source of supply for hotels and restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City in the near future.
However, Mr. Hiep also noted that students need to improve their knowledge and communicate in English because most of the guests coming to Ho Chi Minh City at large hotels and restaurants communicate in this language. Understanding the language to serve better is a mandatory requirement for young people.
It is known that after the competition ends, all information and scores of the contestants will be kept confidential by the judges and are expected to be announced on April 19, in a large-scale event. In addition to the restaurant service competition, the Bach Viet Polytechnic College also held a room service competition.
According to the organizers, this year's contest has the participation of nearly 800 contestants from 36 colleges, intermediate schools, and vocational training institutions in the city, with a total of 19 competing occupations. This year's contest builds new points that are suitable for the reality and requirements of the current labor market.
After 14 times of organization, the contest has affirmed itself as a prestigious playground for movements, academics, and skills, receiving the support of many vocational education institutions in Ho Chi Minh City; is one of the solutions to build high-quality vocational education human resources, spreading and supplementing the city's labor market with a young workforce with good professional skills, meeting the trend of labor transition and the trend of development and integration into the world .
