BUILDING A CLOSED PRODUCTION CHAIN
After graduating from the Veterinary Medicine major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry in 2019, Mr. VinaSEC decided to start a business by raising black chickens, with a scale of 10,000 commercial egg-laying chickens.
Mr. VinaSEC (right cover) successfully started a business thanks to a closed-chain egg-laying black chicken farming model. |
According to Mr. VinaSEC, black chicken eggs are a food with high nutritional value, commonly raised locally, especially in the Northern market. In addition, realizing the increasing demand for clean, safe products, he decided to try his hand at this farming model.
To develop sustainable livestock farming, VinaSEC has built a closed production chain. Specifically, the unit is self-sufficient in breeding stock and cooperates with reputable domestic and foreign feed, vaccine and veterinary medicine companies. All stages are strictly controlled. The company's black chickens are raised according to biosafety standards.
According to Mr. VinaSEC, the company realizes that the market needs a reputable, transparent egg brand with a systematic quality control process. There are many products floating around, of unknown origin, causing consumers to worry about food hygiene and safety. The company understands that customer trust is not easy to gain, therefore, quality, reputation and transparency will always be the guiding principles for all activities of the unit. The company is committed to maintaining and promoting its core values. First of all, the origin is transparent, each batch of eggs can be traced. Along with that is consistent quality. Thanks to the application of standardization and strict supervision from the stage of breeding, veterinary medicine and feed, the eggs always retain their natural flavor and thick yolks. In addition, the eggs do not contain any antibiotic residues according to regulations, and do not contain stimulants. This is the key point that modern consumers are very interested in. |
Hygienic barns, choosing food that does not contain antibiotics and banned substances, good disease control, limiting the use of antibiotics and replacing them with biological products. Thanks to that, the quality of chicken eggs meets high food safety standards.
Mr. VinaSEC said: “The opportunity to be involved in raising and selling black chicken eggs probably comes from our love for raising animals and our desire to bring good products to the community’s health. We decided not to stop at raising and selling eggs, but to build a brand - a commitment to quality, transparency and safety.”
Up to now, the company's main farm is raising about 70,000 laying hens. In addition, the company is cooperating with 50 closed chicken farms from input to output with a scale of about 300,000 chickens.
By participating in this chain, farmers receive many practical and sustainable benefits. Specifically, the company commits to purchasing 100% of the output at market prices, even in difficult market times or when supply exceeds demand. This helps people stabilize output and avoid the risk of loss.
At the same time, capital support helps affiliated farms feel secure in increasing their herds. During periods when egg prices fall or when people need to expand production, the company has a capital support policy, helping people feel secure in maintaining their herds and increasing their farming scale without financial pressure. The company also provides on-site technical support.
Egg quality is always the company's top priority. |
Farmers will be supported by a team of highly specialized veterinarians who will come directly to the farm to test and diagnose diseases; provide advice on disease prevention and treatment; provide guidance on technical improvements to increase productivity and reduce production costs; and access new technologies and new products.
In addition, the company also cooperates with reputable veterinary medicine and vaccine companies to organize regular seminars, helping people update the latest livestock knowledge, access biological products and new generation vaccines. Thereby, improving disease prevention efficiency and productivity.
“To stick with and succeed in raising black chickens, in my experience, it is necessary to combine many factors from knowledge, skills, perseverance, continuous learning and updating to business thinking…” - Mr. VinaSEC shared more.
TOWARDS A MODEL OF RAISING BLACK CHICKEN
Talking about the startup journey, according to Mr. VinaSEC, it was a journey with many difficulties and challenges. Due to the situation of “supply exceeding demand”, the price of chicken eggs decreased, causing difficulties for farmers. The price of chicken eggs and the price of animal feed fluctuated frequently.
Currently, Hoang Hoa Huy Trading and Livestock Company Limited is cooperating to purchase products for 50 farms in the province. |
There were times when egg prices fell below production costs, causing huge losses. Meanwhile, input material prices tended to increase. Especially when the Covid-19 pandemic started, it led to a decrease in demand from concentrated consumption channels that were closed or reduced in operation. People limited their travel and there was a shortage of workers at that time.
Despite the decrease in demand, the production cycle of egg-laying hens continues. Farms cannot stop egg production immediately. This leads to a surplus of supply in the market when demand decreases.
Mr. VinaSEC said: “We have overcome by controlling production costs, focusing on the care process to increase egg yield and quality. At the same time, we have enhanced the resistance of the chicken flock to lay the most optimal yield. Besides, we have built sustainable relationships with partners to stabilize prices. Especially, we have continuously monitored and predicted market prices to guide production planning.”
Thanks to the safe farming process and high product quality, in 2023 the company's black chicken egg products were certified with 3-star OCOP. This confirms the quality standards and expands consumption opportunities in the market. In addition, the company also built a food safety management system according to international standards (ISO 22000:2018) to ensure the production chain from farm to table is always safe.
Thanks to that, the product is strictly inspected, ensuring reliability for consumers. Hoang Gia Huy black chicken eggs are currently supplied to supermarket chains in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi . At the same time, distributed through a network of retail agents throughout the provinces and cities nationwide.
Sharing about future plans, Mr. VinaSEC said that the company will continue to improve the closed chain process more tightly and increase the scale further. Positioning the company's black chicken eggs as a typical product, characteristic of the Mekong Delta in general and Dong Thap in particular, trusted and chosen by consumers nationwide.
The unit will build a model of exemplary black chicken farming that is sustainable in terms of economy, environment and society, contributing to the development of local agriculture.
