Quietly behind the TV news

A good, attractive report, many people often only know the name of the editor and cameraman, but behind that is the hard work and effort of an entire crew, including the editing techniques and the studio technicians. They are like "worker bees" working hard and diligently behind the scenes to make the television work more complete.

Mr. Nguyen Thien An (film editing technician, Program Production Department, Long An Radio and Television Station) is like a hard-working "worker bee", carefully taking care of each frame.

1. Since childhood, Mr. Ho Thien Tam (film studio technician, Program Production Department, Long An Radio and Television Newspaper) has had a special passion for art. He often watched many movies and reports from TV stations and wondered why they could record such sound, film so many valuable scenes, etc.

To answer this question, combined with his great passion for art , he decided to apply to the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City, majoring in directing.

After graduating, he was invited by several major television studios to work as an assistant director. Having lived in Ho Chi Minh City for more than 10 years, in 2021, due to family circumstances, he returned to his hometown and applied to work at Long An Radio and Television Newspaper and Station . Here, he was assigned to work as a film studio technician. His main duties were to handle post-production sound and lighting in the studio.

Mr. Tam said: “If you are not in the profession, you will think that sound is not important. On the contrary, for those in the profession, post-production sound is extremely important. KTVs must eliminate background noise; adjust frequency and dynamics to make the sound soft and easy to listen to; balance and unify the sound throughout the film. As for the lighting in the film set, it needs to be professionally designed, creating depth of space and emotion for each scene, avoiding flat light, lack of shadows or uneven light. In particular, KTVs in the film set need to carefully control the lighting: Key light, fill light, backlight and lighting effects if needed.”

2. Image quality plays a key role in effectively conveying emotions and stories . Images need to be high resolution (at least Full HD, 4K preferred), properly exposed to avoid overexposure or loss of detail in dark areas. Colors must be realistic, consistent between scenes and recorded with a flat color profile for easy post-production. Accurate focus, reasonable composition and good control of depth of field help highlight the subject and guide the viewer's gaze. In addition, all camera movements need to be smooth, avoiding uncontrolled shaking. All of these elements need to be coordinated smoothly, not only to create beautiful frames but more importantly, to contribute to telling stories through images in a deep and professional way.

However, not all filming can reach the above professional level. Therefore, the role of editing is extremely important, contributing to overcoming the shortcomings in each frame with technology and creativity.

Mr. Nguyen Thien An - film editing technician, Program Production Department, Long An Radio and Television Newspaper, shared: "Film editing is not simply rearranging images but also combining sound and special effects to create a series of images with logical order, ensuring aesthetics and conveying realistic, vivid content, attracting viewers. Determining this, I researched and boldly exploited new editing software to both overcome the limitations of filming and create the best product."

Although not appearing in public, the technical team behind the screen plays an extremely important role in bringing beautiful images, vivid sounds and a complete radio and television program to the public./.
