Guehi refused to extend his contract, but continued to contribute before leaving Palace as a free agent. |
Chairman Steve Parish has insisted that Guehi’s future must be resolved this summer – either sell or sign a new deal. However, the 25-year-old centre-back has just one year left on his contract and has made it clear he wants to leave the club without adding any clauses.
Liverpool had agreed a £35m deal with Palace, Guehi had even completed a medical and had even prepared a farewell video. But after a tense debate between manager Oliver Glasner and the club's leadership, the deal was cancelled at the last minute due to a lack of a replacement.
According to The Athletic , it is worth noting that Guehi has never shown any opposition or refused to play, and is expected to continue to fully devote himself to Palace in his final season, before leaving as a free agent.
Despite missing out on a move to Anfield, Guehi is sure to be a sought-after player when he leaves on a free. Liverpool are expected to return to the negotiating table, while Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be keeping an eye on the former Chelsea man.
While Palace have retained their defensive leader, they have been hit by an injury crisis. Adam Wharton has withdrawn from the England squad, expected to be out for up to two months with a recurring groin injury. Ismaila Sarr is out for around a month with a torn hamstring. New Spain signing Yeremy Pino has also withdrawn from the national team with an ankle injury.
