In recent years, with the strong development of information technology, social networks such as Facebook, TikTok, Zalo... have attracted a large number of young people to participate. Social networks play an important role in communicating information, knowledge, entertainment...
However, along with the positive side, social networks also contain a lot of toxic, reactionary, untrue, provocative, and distorted information. If received without verification or guidance, it will affect the thinking, perception, and lifestyle of the young generation.
According to records, in Cam Pha, the majority of young people use smartphones and access social networks at a high level (an average of 3-5 hours per day). About 80% of young people in the locality use social networks as a main information channel, replacing traditional media.
Deputy Secretary of the Cam Pha City Youth Union Do Tran Hanh said: In order to promote the vanguard role of the Youth Union in accompanying young people to receive information in an objective and official manner, the Cam Pha City Youth Union has proactively implemented many practical solutions. Specifically, 25 conferences, seminars, forums, and political activities have been organized at grassroots youth unions, teams, and branches on the topics of "Recognizing bad and toxic information on social networks", "Civilized behavior when using the Internet", and propaganda about the Party and State's policies and laws on cyber security, attracting over 3,500 Youth Union officials, members, and young people to participate. Through the Union's communication channels such as the fanpage "Thanh Nien Cam Pha" and "Hoi Dong Doi Thanh Cam Pha" posting infographics and videos instructing how to verify information and how to refute false information.
In particular, the Cam Pha City Youth Union established a youth media group in each ward and commune, including Youth Union officials and dedicated collaborators who are knowledgeable about social networks. Each group has 10-15 key Youth Union officials. In total, more than 200 officials, union members, and young people participate in these groups. These teams play a core role in monitoring and promptly detecting bad, toxic, reactionary, and distorted information from social networks to report to the City Youth Union, and at the same time proactively respond with official information.
Cam Pha City Youth Union and its branches responded to two online contests “Learn about cyber security” and “Positive status lines”, attracting 1,200 union members and young people to participate. The contests collected more than 400 media products (posts, videos, posters...) affirming a positive, civilized lifestyle, aiming for a safe online community.
Not only that, Cam Pha City Youth Union also proactively coordinated with the police force, the Department of Culture and Information, and local media organizations to organize propaganda sessions, career guidance, and dissemination of laws on cyber security. Through the combined strength of departments, branches, socio-political organizations, and the community, the information gap has been overcome, directing public opinion in the mainstream and positively.
Every quarter, the City Youth Union organizes a review and evaluation of activities, receives feedback from grassroots youth organizations, and from young people. It synthesizes data, analyzes advantages and disadvantages, thereby perfecting appropriate solutions, programs, and activities, and continues to replicate good models and practices.
Thanks to the synchronous and practical solutions that Cam Pha City Youth Union has implemented in recent times, young people in the city have had full and formal access to the policies of the Party and the State, and legal knowledge on cyber security. Young people have gradually developed "resistance", knowing how to choose and verify information before receiving it, and using social networks in a positive and civilized manner.
