According to initial information, previously, patient Tran TT was brought to the hospital by his family with symptoms of bleeding and discharge from the left nostril. After examination, doctors performed a left nasal endoscopy and discovered a suspected stone tumor with a lot of bloody fluid.

After draining all the blood, the doctors discovered a suspicious foreign object in the nasal cavity that looked like a stone and contained many maggots. The patient was taken to the operating room for endoscopic surgery and removed 7 maggots (each measuring 1cm long and 2mm in diameter), and at the same time, the entire stone mass was removed.

After successfully treating the maggot nest and the stone mass in the nasal cavity, the patient's health is now stable and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.

According to patient T.'s family, 6 months ago, patient T. had a stuffy nose, but did not go to the doctor and just bought salt water to rinse. However, the stuffy nose did not improve but got worse. 2 days ago, the patient's nose started bleeding, discharge from the left nostril, so the family took him to Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital for examination.

Dr. Le Thi Ha, Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Ha Tinh General Hospital) said that this is a rare case due to lack of attention to hygiene, along with a foreign body tumor in the nasal cavity. This is a favorable condition for the larvae to develop into maggots. In addition, the patient is also subjective, not paying attention to the disease when the first abnormal symptoms appear, so it is discovered late when the eggs have developed into maggots.

According to Dr. Le Thi Ha, maggots develop very quickly. In cases where maggots are present in the nose, they often cause irritation and increased nasal discharge, nasal swelling, a feeling of foreign objects in the nose, nasal pain, nosebleeds or foul, sour nasal discharge, which can also cause fever. The larvae can penetrate deeper into the brain parenchyma, airways, etc., so the longer they are left, the more dangerous it becomes. Therefore, when experiencing the above symptoms, people need to go to the nearest medical facility for examination and treatment.
