Sesko causes controversy with his comments on Haaland

Striker Benjamin Sesko has spoken out about comparisons with Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Both players have similar starting points, joining RB Salzburg in 2019 and then making a name for themselves in the Bundesliga. Now, Sesko is set to join Manchester United and has the chance to face Haaland head-to-head in the Manchester derby.

Back in 2022, when asked about comparing himself to Haaland, Sesko said: "My teammates at the club say that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even say that I am better than Haaland."

This statement caused a lot of controversy, as it came at a time when Haaland was showing explosive form in the Premier League and gradually asserting his name in Europe.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph , Sesko clarified this comment. He said he doesn't like comparisons and just wants to focus on improving himself.

"I said it once, but it seems people think I'm saying I'm better than Haaland," Sesko shared. "It's not easy to compare with one of the best players in the world right now."

Last season, Sesko scored 21 goals and had 6 assists for RB Leipzig in all competitions, but it was not enough to help the team qualify for European Cup. Meanwhile, Haaland is superior with 34 goals in all competitions.

Haaland missed many chances on the day Man City won hard-fought Manchester City won 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the match of round 27 of the Premier League on February 27.
