Expected to win her first Roland Garros title, Sabalenka had a disappointing performance and made many mistakes in her 1-2 (7-6, 2-6, 4-6) loss to American player Coco Gauff in the final.
According to statistics, this Belarusian tennis player made up to 70 unforced errors, the highest in any women's singles match at Roland Garros this year.
Therefore, after the match ended, Sabalenka could not maintain her usual sense of humor, but she burst into tears and apologized to the fans for her terrible performance.
"Honestly, it was my worst tennis match in months," she said. "The conditions were horrible and Coco Gauff simply adapted better than me to those conditions.
I think I was too emotional and couldn't control myself. I think she won the match not because she played well, but because I made all those mistakes...".
Sabalenka also lost to Coco Gauff 1-2 (6-2, 3-6, 2-6) in the US Open final two years ago. But both times she felt unconvinced and believed that all these failures were due to... "someone's arrangement".
"I can't go out there and play her in a Grand Slam final and play bad tennis like that. Honestly, I feel like a joke, like someone up there is trying to make me lose.
Sometimes I feel like she's hitting the ball out of the court but somehow the ball magically lands back on the court," Sabalenka added.
Sabalenka reached seven finals in 2025, won three titles and led the WTA Tour with 40 wins in 47 matches.
However, she has suffered two major defeats, both in Grand Slam finals, losing to American player Madison Keys 1-2 (3-6, 6-2, 5-7) in the Australian Open final and now losing to an American player.
