The National Assembly voted to pass the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial administrative units: Bac Kan - Thai Nguyen reunited as one

BBK - On the morning of June 12, the National Assembly discussed and voted to pass the National Assembly Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh chaired the discussion session.

The National Assembly voted to pass the Resolution of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025.

The arrangement of provincial administrative units (PPUs) is a major, strategic, comprehensive innovation policy of the Party aimed at restructuring and expanding the space for socio -economic development, promoting the potential and advantages of PPUs, forming large-scale administrative units with mutual support between mountainous - delta - coastal areas, creating conditions for each locality and the whole country to develop evenly, quickly, strongly and sustainably. The project to arrange PPUs at the provincial level in 2025 submitted to the National Assembly has been approved by the vast majority of the people (96.19%) and 100% of People's Council delegates at all levels.

With 461/465 (96.44%) delegates participating in the vote in favor, the draft Resolution of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025 was passed.

Accordingly, 52 provinces and cities are arranged into 23 new provincial-level administrative units. From the effective date of this Resolution, the country has 34 provincial-level administrative units, including 28 provinces and 06 cities. Local governments in provinces and cities formed after the arrangement will officially operate from July 1, 2025. Local governments in provinces and cities before the arrangement will continue to operate until the local governments in provinces and cities formed after the arrangement officially operate.

With the Resolution passed, Bac Kan province and Thai Nguyen province were arranged into a new province called Thai Nguyen province with the entire natural area and population of the two provinces combined. After the arrangement, Thai Nguyen province has a natural area of ​​8,375.21 km ² , a population of 1,799,489 people and borders the provinces and cities including: Bac Ninh, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang and Hanoi city.
