On July 4, information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province said that this unit has just sent an official dispatch to Bai Chay Ward (Quang Ninh), requesting local authorities to verify and clarify whether or not a restaurant in the area has "ripped off" tourists.
In recent days, information has appeared on social networks from a customer named H. (residing in Phu Tho province) reporting that during a trip to Quang Ninh, while eating noodles and pho at Thu Huong restaurant (ancient street in Bai Chay ward), she was "ripped off" by the restaurant with "exorbitant" prices.

Ms. H. said that her family of 5 (4 adults, 1 child) stopped at Thu Huong restaurant for lunch during their trip. Here, the restaurant staff gave them a menu but did not list the prices. After that, Ms. H.'s family ordered 3 bowls of seafood noodles, 1 plate of rice rolls and 1 bowl of porridge, but did not ask for the price first.
After the meal, Ms. H. was surprised to be informed that the total cost was 810,000 VND; each dish cost 150,000 VND, and the fruit juice cost 60,000 VND/cup.
Concerned about the price, Ms. H. had a verbal argument with the restaurant staff but then agreed to pay and leave. Ms. H.'s post on social media quickly attracted attention, causing debate about the price and quality of service at tourist destinations.
A representative of Thu Huong restaurant confirmed the incident, but said that some of the information in the post was not entirely accurate. According to the restaurant, the group of tourists came to eat at noon, a busy time, and the group ordered a "special seafood noodle dish", which is not on the standard menu.
"The staff made a mistake in not informing the customer in advance. The special seafood noodle dish requested by the customer had seafood added, so the price was higher than usual. The breakfast noodle dish costs 80,000 VND/bowl, the lunch bowl is 100,000 VND, and the special bowl is 150,000 VND," the restaurant representative explained.
Regarding the information about sharing a percentage of the bill with taxi drivers who bring customers, the restaurant representative admitted that this policy exists, but only applies to large groups of customers. "For drivers who bring individual customers, the restaurant only gives them soft drinks, and the 5% commission is only for large groups to attract customers," this person said.
After receiving the feedback, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province sent an official dispatch to Bai Chay Ward requesting clarification of the incident. If the restaurant has committed "overcharging", it will be strictly handled according to the provisions of the law.
