The staff of Lai Chau Newspaper's Editorial Department currently consists of 1 Head, 1 Deputy Head, 2 editors and 1 technician. Although the force is not large, each person takes on a large amount of work, with a high sense of responsibility, carefulness and meticulousness in every word. Because even a small mistake in the editing stage can lead to deviations in public perception.
Ms. Pham Thi Hong Thuy - Head of the Editorial Department said: "We always try to build a comprehensive and oriented monthly propaganda plan. The content of the issues not only closely follows the political tasks, Party building work, socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security of the province but also closely follows the flow of current events of the country".
The Editorial Board always closely follows and accompanies the Editorial Department in the process of publishing news and articles in the newspaper.
Not only stopping at the editing stage, the department is also responsible for organizing the issues, building content according to specialized pages and columns, and maintaining a wide network of collaborators at departments, branches, sectors, and districts and cities in the province. Thanks to the close connection, each newspaper page provides a rich, multi-dimensional source of information, vividly reflecting all aspects of social life. Currently, Lai Chau Newspaper publishes 4 regular issues (4 large-size pages) and 1 issue every Saturday (8 small-size pages). In addition, each month there are 3 issues of Lai Chau Newspaper for ethnic minorities in the highlands.
Not only ensuring accurate and oriented content, the publications are also presented scientifically and attractively, helping readers easily access and receive information effectively. To ensure that each issue is published on time, in the right direction, and of high quality is a process of urgent, careful and dedicated work by the editorial team. The work seems to be just "editing", but in reality, it requires comprehensive knowledge and a high level of sensitivity to new information.
Editor - Lai Chau Newspaper is meticulous and careful in every word.
The editing work does not stop at the words. It is also a process of considering the content, perspective and orientation: Does the article evoke a positive spirit? Does it reflect the correct policies and guidelines? Does it touch the people's thoughts and aspirations? How does the reflected content create a spread and social effect? ... These questions are always present, like a "double filter" behind the reporter's pen.
According to Ms. Vu Thi Kim Tuyen - Editor, "There are articles sent in that lack information or are unclear. At that time, the editor must proactively discuss with the reporter, request additional documents, verify data, and cite. The ultimate goal is to make each article "fuller", more accurate and honest before reaching the readers".
Especially in the context of strong development of social networks, information spreads quickly, multi-dimensionally but sometimes without verification, the role of "gatekeeper" of the Editorial Department is more cautious than ever. Editors not only check and correct errors but also have to be more proficient in dealing with "interference" in information to guide public opinion in a positive, healthy direction and in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Party newspaper.
The Editorial Department regularly holds professional meetings to exchange experiences after publishing the newspaper.
Ms. Hong Thuy added: "We always clearly define our role as protecting the core values of revolutionary journalism. Although we do not directly work like reporters, the Editorial Department is the final step to ensure that the information delivered to readers is accurate, objective and in-depth."
Editing requires meticulous attention to detail. The words must not only be correct, but also good and appropriate for each reader. Each page of the newspaper is a "spiritual product" polished by the hands and minds of silent people. Although they are not pictured or signed in the article, their mark is present in every line and every headline of each article.
To improve professional quality, the Editorial Department also regularly organizes meetings to share experiences and exchange expertise to improve editing quality. Modern presentation trends and approaches to topics that are close and accessible to readers are always updated and flexibly applied, in line with the increasingly high demands of modern journalism.
Editorial Department leaders discuss professional matters with prepress department technicians.
From the beginning of 2025 to now, the Editorial Department has advised the editorial office to publish and distribute 152 issues, including: 108 regular Lai Chau Newspaper issues, 18 issues for ethnic minorities in the highlands, and 26 weekend issues. In total, more than 482,000 newspapers were distributed, producing 716 newspaper pages (an increase of 54 pages compared to the annual plan). These numbers are clear evidence of the efforts, dedication, and silent responsibility of the department.
In the constant flow of journalism, the Editorial Department stands quietly behind, silently supporting and preserving the core values of each publication. The editors do not appear on the newspaper, but are the ones who ensure that each page that reaches the readers is accurate, neat and rich in direction. From that dedication and responsibility, the readers' trust in Lai Chau Newspaper is increasingly cultivated through each word.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), I would like to wish all the Editorial Department members and all journalists - to always maintain the flame of passion, sense of responsibility and devotion to the profession. I hope that you will continue to devote yourself to the cause of revolutionary journalism, for the trust and love of Lai Chau readers in particular, and readers nationwide in general.
