“China opposes hegemony, power politics , unilateralism and Cold War mentality,” Han Zheng said. “A small number of countries have arbitrarily imposed unilateral and illegal sanctions, seriously eroding the harmony and stability of international relations. The international community should jointly oppose such actions.”

Mr. Han Zheng also called for human rights and democracy, calling on the global community to “oppose politicization and double standards, especially the use of human rights and democracy as a political tool to interfere in the affairs of other countries.”

In his 15-minute speech on Thursday to the 193-member body of the United Nations, Han Zheng also cited the need for “three global pillars” that reflect China’s vision for reshaping the world: the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative.

“The legitimate security concerns of all countries should be addressed, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, and differences and disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and consultation,” Mr. Han Zheng added.

Regarding the Ukraine conflict, Mr. Han Zheng said: “China supports all efforts conducive to a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis and is willing to continue to play a constructive role to achieve peace as soon as possible.”

China will host its third Belt and Road forum next month, which will bring together representatives from more than 110 countries to discuss China's ambitious cross-continental trade and infrastructure initiative.
