Up more than 71% over the same period
Recently, at the conference introducing the product “Cultural and artistic tourism experience in Hue City”, the opening speech of Director of the Department of Tourism Tran Thi Hoai Tram attracted the attention of those present. Ms. Tram said that in the first 7 months of the year, Hue tourism attracted more than 4 million visitors, an increase of more than 71% over the same period. This number even surpassed the total number of visitors to Hue in the whole year of 2024 (3.9 million).
Hue tourism has been showing many positive signs as the locality hosts the National Tourism Year. Not only has there been a significant increase in the number of visitors, but the number of guests staying has also increased significantly, with nearly 1.5 million visitors in the first 7 months of the year (an increase of more than 23% over the same period). Total revenue from tourism since the beginning of 2025 has reached more than 7,455 billion VND.
The outstanding results of Hue tourism contribute to the achievements of the country's smokeless industry. Tourism is considered by the Government as one of the 10 bright spots in the socio-economic picture. The number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first half of the year reached 10.7 million, an increase of 20.7% over the same period last year. Domestic visitors reached 77.5 million. Total tourism revenue reached 518 trillion VND.
Internationally, the growth results of Vietnam's tourism have been recognized and highly appreciated by the United Nations Tourism Organization. In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam achieved a growth rate of 30% compared to the same period in 2024, the highest in the Asia-Pacific region and ranked 6th worldwide. In terms of recovery compared to 2019 before the pandemic, Vietnam also had very good results, ranking 2nd in the Asia-Pacific with a growth rate of 34%. In the context of Asia-Pacific tourism still finding its way to recovery, Vietnam's growth rate has truly become a bright spot in the region.
Hue is maintaining and attracting many international tourist markets, including France, England, Australia, Germany, America, Italy, Taiwan (China), Spain... According to Director of the Department of Tourism Tran Thi Hoai Tram, with a series of breakthrough policies issued in the first 6 months of the year, such as: visa exemption, service fee reduction, electricity price incentives for accommodation establishments..., the opportunity to create bright spots in tourism is growing.
Accelerate development
Vietnam tourism is facing opportunities to affirm its role as a driving force of the economy. That opportunity stems from the attention of the entire political system and society for tourism activities; the international tourist market still has much room for growth in the conditions of favorable policies on visas and immigration. For Hue, the goal of welcoming 5.5 - 6 million visitors in 2025 is feasible if the locality persists in implementing solutions in the right direction.
At the Conference on implementing key tasks of the tourism industry in the last 6 months of 2025 (held in early July), Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that after the merger, localities need to re-identify key markets, focusing on the top 10 markets including Korea, China, Japan, the US, Australia, ASEAN, India, the Middle East, Russia, and the EU; in which, it is necessary to identify "Market as the center, brand as the foundation" to promote and advertise effectively. At the same time, focus on building unique tourism products, redefining the product system, with depth, focusing on promoting the values of relics and cultural heritages as resources for tourism development.
From a local perspective, Hue has many advantages. The attention, coordination and support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and localities in organizing activities, events and promoting the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is an opportunity to spread the values of the land, culture, people and beauty of Hue to tourists. Hue is also joining forces with the Central Coastal bloc and localities nationwide to connect and promote tourism development.
In tourism, products are the most important factor. One thing worth expecting is that Hue is perfecting its typical tourism products, Hue tourism brand and forming a number of new products to meet practical requirements. According to Ms. Tram, Hue will focus on developing green, sustainable tourism products with quality, diversity, distinction, high added value and enhancing the experience for tourists based on the advantages of culture, heritage and existing resources. Focus on developing cultural tourism products, associated with preserving and promoting the heritage values of Hue Ancient Capital; prioritize the implementation and reorganization of service activities at the Imperial City and a number of other points of the Hue Monuments Complex in the direction of both day and night.
In addition, Hue aims to strongly develop key tourism products with advantages of Hue tourism based on the established brands: Heritage City, Culinary Capital, Ao Dai Capital, Land of Hoang Mai, ASEAN Green City... to form unique, different tourism products with competitive advantages, contributing to building a prominent brand of Hue tourism.
In the upcoming orientation, Hue City will form tourism performance and service areas to promote experiential services and develop brands, such as: Culinary Museum, Ao Dai Museum...; create highlights and highlight tourism products and services on the Huong River axis from Phu Xuan Bridge - Truong Tien Bridge associated with exploiting exhibition streets combined with a chain of high-end tourism services; create souvenir shopping spots with Hue brand in the city center. All of these solutions are key highlights, along with the synergy in the connections, between industries and localities, from which Hue tourism can accelerate its development.
