Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Elderly Association Pham Huy Giap said: Implementing the direction of the City People's Committee, the City Elderly Association presided over and coordinated with the Department of Culture - Sports and related departments and branches to develop Topic No. 02/CD-HNCTHN dated April 21, 2025 on "Promoting the position, role, prestige and exemplary role of the elderly in the family and community, building "Elegant and civilized Hanoians" and was approved by the City People's Committee in Decision No. 2996/QD-UBND dated June 15, 2025.
According to Mr. Pham Huy Giap, the development and implementation of the topic aims to propagate and mobilize cadres, members, and the elderly to promote their roles, be exemplary, and take the lead; thereby spreading widely in the community and the entire city to effectively implement the movement, meeting the development requirements of the country in the new era.
To implement the topic, in the second quarter of 2025, the City Elderly Association organized conferences to deploy to all levels of the Association; printed leaflets and distributed them to 4,898 elderly associations across the city; and disseminated information to officials and members of the elderly association in the capital.
At the seminar, delegates exchanged, discussed and shared some results of promoting the role of the elderly in the movement to build cultural families, contributing to building elegant and civilized Hanoians in Gia Lam commune; advantages and difficulties of the elderly in implementing and carrying out the set of criteria for family conduct. Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, former President of the Gia Lam District Elderly Association, said that with their knowledge and experience, the elderly in Gia Lam commune have mobilized their children and the community to effectively implement the 5 contents of the Code of Conduct in the family, the Party's policies and the State's laws; 97% of families have achieved the title of cultural family, 91% of members have achieved the title of "Old age - Bright example".
Mr. Nguyen Dac Hoa, Vice President of the Association of the Elderly in the old Duong Xa commune, said that to build a culture of family behavior today, it is necessary to harmoniously combine traditional values with modern values.
Concluding the discussion, Chairman of the Hanoi Elderly Association Nguyen The Toan said that this was the first discussion organized by the Hanoi Elderly Association after the nationwide implementation of the 2-level local government model.
Appreciating the elderly associations in the old Gia Lam district for effectively implementing the movement "Elegant and civilized Hanoians" in the community, with many good models, Mr. Nguyen The Toan suggested that the elderly in the associations and units actively set an example in organizing and participating in community activities.
After the commune-level Elderly Association was reorganized, the Association continued to strengthen coordination with residential areas; continued to promote the role of the elderly in participating, propagating, and mobilizing members and people to build a cultural life, building elegant and civilized Hanoians.
