Many important vestiges related to the Northeast citadel wall of the ancient capital Hoa Lu were discovered during an emergency excavation of the archaeological site in Tan Hoa village, Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu city, Ninh Binh province.

New archaeological discoveries at Hoa Lu Ancient Capital.

The archaeological excavation area is located on the land of a household in Tan Hoa village, Truong Yen commune, considered the Northeast wall of Hoa Lu citadel, discovering many important vestiges of Hoa Lu citadel wall.

Specifically, the lower layer reinforcing the wall foot is 3.46m deep from the existing wall surface, which is a thin layer of wood mixed with wooden stakes driven deep into the weak ground to create a foundation raft.

Broken bricks are divided into two groups: Gray bricks, some of which have the words "Giang Tay Quan" and are confirmed to be from the 8th to 9th centuries. Red bricks, with the words "Dai Viet Quoc Quan Thanh Chuyen" are typical of the 10th century.

From the archaeological results, it is necessary to study and include the Northeast Citadel and locations related to Hoa Lu Citadel in the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Special National Monument Planning.

Hoa Lu was the first capital of Dai Co Viet state, the birthplace of three dynasties: Dinh-Tien Le and the beginning of Ly dynasty. The Hoa Lu Ancient Capital historical and cultural relic site was ranked as a national relic by the Ministry of Culture for the first time in 1962; and ranked as a special national relic by the Prime Minister in 2012.

The ancient capital of Hoa Lu is a special national relic complex, containing many typical historical and cultural values. Through many ups and downs of history, this place has become a unique cultural area, playing an important role in preserving and transmitting cultural values from ancient times.
