On August 31 (local time), MU decided to spend 21 million euros, including additional fees, to sign a contract with Lammens. This deal put an end to Martinez, who had also reached a personal agreement to join MU before.
Martinez, however, did not seem upset after the deal fell through. On his personal page, he shared a happy photo at the airport while waiting to return to the Argentina team for the FIFA Days series in September.

The price to recruit Martinez is up to 40 million pounds, this is considered too expensive for a 32-year-old goalkeeper. Therefore, the "Red Devils" decided to give up the negotiation and switch to a younger target, Lammens (23 years old).
Martinez has been a key player at Villa Park under Unai Emery for the past two years, but with Aston Villa struggling financially and the player's contract expiring in June 2027, Martinez's departure this summer was once seen as the best-case scenario for all parties.
In the third round of the Premier League last weekend, coach Emery left Martinez out of the squad for the 0-3 loss to Crystal Palace. After the match, the Spanish coach expressed his dissatisfaction with his student: "We need players who are 100% focused on the club. And he doesn't have that."
