Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son attended and congratulated the new Principal, along with all the staff, civil servants, employees and students of Foreign Trade University.
The Deputy Minister said that the Ministry of Education and Training has high expectations and trust in the new Principal - Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong - who grew up at this school, has a solid professional foundation, has been trained domestically and internationally, has rich practical experience and a strong spirit of innovation.
With the new responsibility, the Deputy Minister believes that Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong will continue to inherit the core values of the University, promote the existing achievements, and together with the leadership team and all lecturers and students, build the Foreign Trade University to new heights - solid in expertise, breakthrough in thinking, and integrated in vision.

Suggesting some key tasks in the coming time, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Foreign Trade University needs to affirm its pioneering role - not only leading in innovation, but also having the responsibility to lead and contribute to the system; not only developing itself, but also spreading and creating influence for the whole society.
To do that, the Deputy Minister noted, it is necessary to have new thinking, strategy, innovative management skills, a vision beyond existing limits, along with close accompaniment and creation from the State, schools and support from the whole society for the future of sustainable development of the country.
The Deputy Minister suggested that the Foreign Trade University should continue to promote its pioneering role, in which it should thoroughly grasp innovative thinking and form a new vision; at the same time, pay attention to implementing many synchronous and breakthrough solutions to maintain and consolidate its position as a leading university in many fields, training and research, gradually achieving regional and international standard highereducation institutions.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the school needs to strongly develop an advanced and modern university governance model, taking university autonomy as the foundation and driving force, coupled with implementing accountability; promoting transformation, strongly applying digital technology and artificial intelligence in governance, research, teaching, and all aspects of operation.
In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of training associated with research, practice, market demand, sustainable development orientation, promote interdisciplinary program innovation, integrate global skills and digital skills.
On the other hand, building and developing a team of lecturers is a key factor in determining the quality of training, who are highly qualified scientists, rich in academic qualities, capable of independent research, international cooperation and practical experience; creating an open, creative working, teaching and learning environment, promoting comprehensive development.
Along with that, promote international cooperation, proactively integrate deeply with prestigious universities in the world, thereby increasing competitiveness, creating academic attraction and effective knowledge transfer.
Mobilize and effectively use all resources to improve, especially to expand the school campus construction area, learning - research - creative space, ensuring the comprehensive and sustainable development of the School in the future.

In her inaugural speech, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong pledged to run the organization according to the principle of "stability and efficiency", promote democracy, strengthen internal solidarity, and ensure close and effective coordination in the leadership and direction of the Party Committee, the School Council, and the Board of Directors.
Thereby, gradually forming a culture of "frankness, sharing and companionship" in implementing development strategies; at the same time closely following the motto "differentiation to lead", to promote a culture of "innovation".
The new Principal will work with the school community to build a foundation for sustainable development, from strengthening the foundation and pillars to perfecting functions to bring value to the subjects in the educational ecosystem;
At the same time, identify breakthrough development directions and thoroughly apply the "leverage motivation model" in the context of limited resources, in order to achieve the strategic development goals of the School.
“I will, together with the School's Pedagogical Team, be determined to realize the aspiration of making Foreign Trade University one of the leading universities in Asia, a place that respects academic freedom, encourages creative research, develops a training model associated with promoting thinking and the ability to master the context, overcomes prejudices about educational values, nurtures dreams and ambitions, and aims for positive impact and sustainable development” - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong emphasized.

On March 6, 2025, the Minister of Education and Training signed Decision No. 636/QD-BGDDT recognizing Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong as Rector of Foreign Trade University for the 2020-2025 term, starting from July 1, 20205.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong was born in 1977, is a former student of the 34th course majoring in Foreign Economics, Foreign Trade University, graduated with a master's degree in economics from Aarhus University (Denmark), and received a doctorate in economics from Foreign Trade University.
Before being appointed as Principal, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong held the position of Vice Principal in charge of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate training, international cooperation, business cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship, student affairs... and was the one who contributed to shaping the principle of "fundamental, open and flexible" in developing training programs; the systematic approach in building and developing the open innovation and entrepreneurship education ecosystem of the School".
She is also the initiator of the training model associated with career development of learners at Foreign Trade University, including programs to improve learners' capacity through 4 groups "We, The Icebreakers", "We, The Explorers", "We, The Innovators" and "We, The Ambassadors", and thoroughly applying the "campus in campus" model to promote effective exploitation of resources from business cooperation and international cooperation for the development of higher education.
With 30 years of working at Foreign Trade University since she was a student, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong has held key positions at the University such as: Head of the Professional Department of the Vietnam - Japan Human Resources Development Institute (VJCC), Head of the Planning - Finance Department, Head of the Training Management Department and participated in coordinating and directing many international projects on higher education. In addition, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong has also held the role of President of the Trade Union of Foreign Trade University for many years.
