In his speech at the convention, Donald Trump called on Americans to unite. “In a time when we are too often divided by politics , now is the time to remember that we are all people. We are one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” Donald Trump said.

The former US President also criticized the Democratic Party, saying that the party should not label its political opponents as “enemies of democracy”. “In fact, I am the defender of democracy for the American people. I am the savior of democracy”, Mr. Donald Trump emphasized.

Previously, on July 16, US House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that Mr. Donald Trump was selected as the Republican Party's candidate for US president with 2,387 votes out of a total of 2,429 delegates voting.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on July 16, Republican candidate Donald Trump is temporarily leading incumbent US President Joe Biden in the race to the White House by 2% (43%-41%). According to Reuters, the rate is still within the 3% margin of error, indicating that the attempted assassination of Donald Trump has not caused a major change in voter sentiment.
