On the afternoon of June 23, the female singer known as the "Queen of Jazz" of Vietnam returned to her homeland in a warm musical atmosphere, true to the liberal and passionate spirit of the music genre she has been attached to for nearly 60 years.

During the performances at familiar tea rooms in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City, a musical space reserved for jazz lovers - Tuyet Loan's voice still resounds magically and passionately, as if recalling the dim light of the golden years of the familiar tea room.

She is proud to be a female singer and songwriter with over 300 songs, and was once a famous Jazz Album produced by a Singapore record company.

What makes singer Tuyet Loan's return this time more meaningful is not only the warm welcome from the public, but also the touching reunion on the afternoon of June 23 with her long-time companions - artists who have been with her through many stages of her artistic life.

The highlight was the meeting with artist Tu Trinh, who was once known as "the best dramatic voice in the South". Both were close colleagues at the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe - where stage art and music harmonized in an atmosphere of sincere and dedicated artistic work. Their conversation, even though it was only a few hours, seemed to last a time of passionate youth. "At that time, I acted in plays, and Tuyet Loan sang music. Because the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe had a musical performance before the plays, we were close colleagues on this stage. So many memories came flooding back and I was happy to know that Tuyet Loan was still full of life on the Jazz stage" - artist Tu Trinh shared.

MC and journalist Minh Duc takes singer Tuyet Loan around Ho Chi Minh City

Since singer Dai Le - Tuyet Loan's husband - passed away, she has been living with her three daughters in the US. Every year she returns to her hometown to perform.

The most surprising appearance was the appearance of singer - Meritorious Artist Hong Van, a familiar voice of folk music from three regions and reciting inspirational poetry. "No one believed that Hong Van and I were so close", Tuyet Loan shared with a smile. Perhaps it was the passion and sincerity in each person's love for music that brought them closer together than any other genre.

The meeting was also attended by artist Hoang Diep, the daughter of two famous names in the world of culture and art – People’s Artist Quang Hai and artist Hoang Khanh. Currently, Hoang Diep is an excellent female conductor and although she has retired, she is still invited to lecture in many places, including the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. She is a rare symbol in the Vietnamese classical music world who is always friendly and connected with artists.

Among her colleagues, Ms. Tuyet Loan calls Hoang Diep "the one who keeps the rhythm for timeless melodies".

Singer Tuyet Loan

It is impossible not to mention the presence of journalist - MC Minh Duc, who has accompanied hundreds of large and small music programs in Ho Chi Minh City. He is the one who introduced Tuyet Loan to the younger generation of audiences through talk shows and special music nights. And on the afternoon of June 23, he continued to be the "storyteller" at the reunion, recalling the highlights of a jazz career.

When asked about her feelings on this return, singer Tuyet Loan smiled:

"I am so happy to return home every year to sing for the audience and meet friends and colleagues. That is the greatest happiness."

In Tuyet Loan's singing, there is both sadness and joy, cigarette smoke from the old years and the lights of today.

And in her eyes when leaving the meeting, there was something wet - maybe the sweat of a summer day in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City, or maybe a drop of emotion when knowing that: there are still many people who have not forgotten a jazz singer who was once an icon, and still secretly love it every night. "In September, I will return to perform and meet friends. Right now, the greatest happiness is to still be able to sing Jazz music and live in the loving arms of the public" - she confided.
