Four years ago, Ms. Le Thi Dan in Trung Thinh hamlet boldly borrowed more than 500 million VND to plant 6 sao of Danh mountain ginseng. At that time, many people were still skeptical about the effectiveness of the new crop. However, after only one year of care, the plant began to flower. Up to now, the ginseng garden has entered its fourth year and brought a bumper harvest.
“The price of dried flowers is stable at 600,000 VND/kg. With a yield of about 40kg of dried flowers/sao, the economic efficiency is many times higher than growing sugarcane before,” Ms. Dan shared.

The ginseng flower season lasts from late August to mid-October. Plants that are 5-7 years old can also produce tubers, with prices reaching up to 1.5 million VND/kg. “If well cared for, the plants will produce both flowers and tubers, and the income will be very stable,” she added.
Like Mrs. Dan, Mr. Le Viet Hien’s family is busy harvesting ginseng flowers. In order to improve the quality of the product, he invested 30 million VND to buy a home dryer that meets OCOP standards, thanks to which the product is guaranteed by the company.
“Previously, we grew custard apples and sugarcane, but the output was unstable. Now we have switched to ginseng, which has a good harvest and good price. This plant has really helped us change our lives,” Mr. Hien shared.

If in the past, people struggled with traditional crops, now, thanks to Danh mountain ginseng, many households have an income of tens of millions of dong/year.
According to Mr. Pham Van Thong - Vice Chairman of Nghia Hung Commune People's Committee, in recent years, Danh mountain ginseng has become a valuable raw material. "We will organize tours for people to learn and gradually expand to many other hamlets," said Mr. Thong.
Not only stopping at raw material production, the commune also coordinates with processing households to increase the value of products. Danh mountain ginseng tea meets 3-star OCOP standards, opening up opportunities to access a large market. Product promotion is also promoted through fairs, e-commerce, and business connections.

The development of ginseng shows a clear change in people's production thinking. No longer small-scale, fragmented farming, people have boldly applied drying and preservation technology, linking production according to the value chain. Many households believe that, in just a few years, Nghia Hung commune will become a ginseng-specialized area associated with the OCOP Nghe An brand.
The initial success of the Danh mountain ginseng plant opens up many prospects. The plant is suitable for natural conditions, meeting the market demand for clean, quality products. In addition to its economic value, mountain ginseng also contributes to crop diversification, reducing dependence on sugarcane and custard-apple - traditional crops with many risks.
