Vietnam's No. 1 badminton player overcomes psychological pressure

In game 1, the 27-year-old Taiwanese player caused a lot of trouble for Nguyen Thuy Linh before winning 21/19. This was the game in which the number 1 Vietnamese player showed a lot of psychological pressure, so she could not show her full potential.

Entering the second set with full force, Nguyen Thuy Linh returned to her true self by effectively using a variety of shots, thereby completely dominating the game. The Vietnamese badminton beauty had an impressive scoring streak (14 consecutive points), creating a gap of 20/6 before winning 21/7, equalizing the score 1-1 with Chen Su Yu.

Regaining her good form, Nguyen Thuy Linh continued to play well in the decisive third game. Chen Su Yu's efforts only helped her keep up with the Vietnamese player in the first half of the game. Creating a streak of 11 consecutive points, Nguyen Thuy Linh closed the third game with a 21/10 victory and completed the comeback against Chen Su Yu.

Nguyen Thuy Linh's opponent in the women's singles quarterfinals of the 2025 Canada Open badminton tournament is Malaysian tennis player Wong Ling Ching, ranked 87th in the world. Although not yet ranked high, the 21-year-old Malaysian tennis player's youth is an advantage over Nguyen Thuy Linh.

While Nguyen Thuy Linh was happy with a ticket to the next round at the Canada Open, the remaining representative of Vietnamese badminton, Nguyen Hai Dang, stopped at the second round of the men's singles. Against the world's 7th seed Naraoka Kodai (Japan), who played exceptionally well, Nguyen Hai Dang (world's 67th) lost 0-2 (10/21, 11/21).
