Nguyen Thuy Linh sets new record, bringing Vietnamese badminton to historic heights

Vietnam's number one female tennis player - Nguyen Thuy Linh continues to make a golden mark for the country's badminton when she officially rose to 18th place in the women's singles rankings of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). This is the highest ranking ever for a Vietnamese female tennis player in the singles category, marking a historic turning point in the development journey of Vietnamese badminton.

Impressive comeback journey

In early 2025, Nguyen Thuy Linh dropped to 35th place in the world , causing many people to worry that her performance would be affected after a year of intense competition and not many breakthrough tournaments. However, the 1997-born tennis player from Phu Tho made a spectacular comeback, demonstrating the mettle of a top player in the region.

The impressive streak of achievements in the first half of 2025 is a clear testament to Thuy Linh's relentless efforts: reaching the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters - one of the tournaments in the BWF World Tour Super 500 system, then winning the runner-up position at the German Open (Super 300). She continued her good form when reaching the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters and winning another runner-up title at the Canada Open.

These excellent results helped Thuy Linh accumulate 49,550 points - equal to last week but enough for her to surpass her two direct competitors, Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt (Denmark) and Busanan Ongbamrungphan (Thailand), who were recently deducted points due to poor performance in recent tournaments.

Breaking historical milestone - the pride of Vietnamese badminton

With her new position - world No. 18, Thuy Linh has officially broken the record she set in October 2023 (when she entered the Top 20 for the first time at No. 20). Previously, the record for the highest ranking of Vietnamese women's badminton belonged to Vu Thi Trang, at No. 34 in the world.

This is not only a milestone in her personal career but also a historical mark for Vietnamese badminton on the world stage. From being not highly regarded in women's singles badminton, Vietnam now has a representative in the top 20 best badminton players on the planet - something that was considered "unbelievable" just a few years ago.

Thuy Linh is also the only Vietnamese tennis player currently in the group capable of competing for a place in the BWF World Tour Finals - a prestigious tournament reserved for only the 8 tennis players with the best achievements of the year.

Not just a "badminton beauty queen"

With a lovely face, balanced figure and gentle demeanor, Nguyen Thuy Linh has been affectionately called "badminton beauty queen of Vietnam" by both domestic and international media. However, it is her persistent efforts, intelligent playing style, speed and flexible movement on the court that have won over the audience and made her a symbol of Vietnamese badminton.

During her career, Thuy Linh has won dozens of domestic titles and many international championships in the International Series and International Challenge systems. She is the most stable player in Vietnamese badminton in the past 5 years, always maintaining the position of number one female player and being a key factor of the national team at the SEA Games and Asian championships.

Top 15 target and World Tour Finals ticket

On the current upward trajectory, Nguyen Thuy Linh does not hide her greater ambitions. The tennis player from Phu Tho aims to soon enter the world's Top 15, and at the same time win an official ticket to attend the World Tour Finals 2025 - the most prestigious and fierce playground for top tennis players.

To achieve that, Thuy Linh will continue to compete in tournaments in the Super 300 and Super 500 systems in the next few months, including the Thailand Open, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open. Each tournament is an opportunity for her to accumulate more points, affirm her position and aim for bigger milestones.

Nguyen Thuy Linh is now not only the pride of Vietnamese badminton but also an inspirational symbol for the younger generation of athletes. With her perseverance, constant efforts and desire to reach the world, she is continuing to write the dream of Vietnamese sports on the international badminton map. With her current form, fans have every right to hope for another brilliant 2025 season for the "badminton beauty queen" of Vietnam.
