West Ham continued their poor run of form with a 2-3 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in the Carabao Cup in the early morning of August 27.

Notably, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen could not keep his cool and rushed straight to the stands to argue with West Ham fans.

The incident quickly exploded on social media. One West Ham fan wrote on X: "Bowen is now arguing with the fans. This club is really beyond saving."

Another said: "It's sad to see Bowen doing this to his own fans."

Despite the criticism, many fans sided with Bowen. "Wouldn't be surprised if he decided to leave!" - one commenter.

Another voiced his defence: "Attacking one of the club's best and most loyal players like Jarrod Bowen is not the right way to go West Ham fans."

Just minutes after the incident, the West Ham captain posted a heartfelt apology on Instagram. "Apologies to the fans for the reaction tonight," he wrote.

"I am a passionate person and I always fight hard on the pitch. But I know I need to set a better example and you know how much I love you and this club. We will get through this together, see you on Sunday," Jarrod Bowen wrote.

The incident immediately caused West Ham manager Graham Potter to speak out to calm the situation: "I don't know exactly what happened. But the supporters have always been great. Of course they are disappointed with the result and Jarrod Bowen is also a person who cares a lot about the team."

"It was just an exchange of views between people who genuinely care," he insisted. Asked if it was an isolated incident, Potter replied: "I believe so. We haven't had the results we wanted and that's the normal reaction. Jarrod has always been a great leader for the club."

West Ham manager stresses the importance of unity: "The most important relationship in a club is between the fans and the team.

You guys are the most important people. We need everyone to pull together. That's one of the great things about West Ham, it feels like a family, and we need everyone.

The team is in trouble. I can assure you that no one is happy with what we are doing. We are all suffering. So we need everyone's help and support."

The defeat to Wolves was West Ham's third defeat of the new season, following a 0-3 loss to Sunderland and a 1-5 loss to Chelsea.
