Pengdao Village (Nan'an City, Fujian Province) attracted a lot of attention in China in late August after a video recording a large-scale scholarship award ceremony at the family's ancestral temple went viral, according to the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald.
This is the second time the ceremony has been held, sponsored by the Quach Family Scholarship Fund - the largest family in the village.

This village of Peng Dao is located in a remote mountainous area with a population of about 6,000. In the past, there was little arable land and life was difficult, forcing people to focus on education to get ahead.
For generations, families in the village, mostly surnamed Guo, have established the Guo Family Education Fund to support their children’s education. On August 28, at the family temple, the fund awarded a total of 217,000 yuan (about 755 million VND) in scholarships to 62 students: a new PhD student from Tsinghua University, 15 new master’s students, and 46 undergraduate students.
During the ceremony, the children wore red ribbons embroidered with the words “Glory to the Ancestors”, burned incense and bowed before the ancestral altar. Red horizontal lacquered boards bearing the names of the doctors from the schools they attended were hung solemnly in the largest building in the village.
Mr. Quach Dong Vu, Director of the Education Fund, shared: “We hope that the scholarship will not only encourage students to study hard but also remind the young generation to love their homeland and country and live responsibly towards the community.”

According to SCMP , with its rare achievement, Peng Dao quickly became the focus of attention on mainland social media. Many people admired and called it a “dream village”. One netizen wrote: “People say it’s because of good feng shui, but I believe it’s because of the studious atmosphere, everyone strives to excel”. Another expressed: “I wish I could send my children to study here”.
Previously, in Zhejiang province, a family attracted attention when they held a grand ceremony to celebrate their son's admission to Peking University - the first person in the family to achieve this honor in more than 100 years.
