The cemetery managers of the provincial martyrs cemetery located in Hoa Binh commune clean and sanitize the cemetery grounds.
Ca Mau province has 2 provincial martyrs' cemeteries, with more than 5,000 martyrs' graves. The provincial martyrs' cemeteries (located in Hoa Binh commune) cover an area of nearly 10 hectares, with 3,942 martyrs' graves from all over the country, including nearly 500 unknown martyrs' graves. The site management board here has 14 people, including 9 workers who are in charge of trimming trees, sweeping, and cleaning the graves. Every time you come to the provincial martyrs' cemeteries, it is easy to see the image of the diligent site managers, diligently burning incense, sweeping, and taking care of each grave of heroic martyrs .
Take care of the plants around the cemetery area.
The day of Mr. Le Hoang Giang (55 years old, Hoa Binh commune) starts early. People around the NTLS area of the province are very familiar with the steady sound of his broom every dawn. This quiet work seems to bring warmth and comfort to the heroic martyrs resting here.
Having worked as a caretaker for more than 10 years, Mr. Giang knows by heart the names of each martyr, his hometown, his location, and his rows. In addition to guiding relatives of martyrs to visit and burn incense, his daily work is weeding, cleaning graves, collecting trash, trimming, and taking care of ornamental plants... For graves with unknown names, he considers them as family members, taking good care of them so that the souls of unknown martyrs can be comforted when their relatives have not found them.
“I have more than 10 relatives resting at the provincial cemetery. When I visited and burned incense to take care of my relatives’ graves, I felt very sad when I saw many nameless graves with no relatives to visit. From then on, I decided to stick with the job of a caretaker so that I could both take care of the graves and burn incense every day for the heroes. This is both my duty and my gratitude to those who did not hesitate to sacrifice their blood and bones to regain the peaceful life for us today,” Mr. Giang confided.
Following his father's career as a caretaker at the Provincial Cemetery (located in An Xuyen Ward), for more than 5 years, Mr. Dao Huynh Hai Trieu, 33 years old, has always been proud of his chosen profession. Every day, in addition to doing tasks such as cleaning, pruning trees, changing incense bowl sand, arranging flowers, receiving and supporting relatives of martyrs, etc., he also works as a security guard. 24/7, whenever you come to the Provincial Cemetery, you will always see him on duty to protect the place. Mr. Trieu shared: "Every day, I and 2 colleagues take care of 1,100 martyrs' graves. Just seeing the cemetery landscape always clean and airy so that relatives of martyrs can feel "cool" when visiting, is a great joy for us and we vow to stay with it for the rest of our lives."
Mr. Hai Trieu (left cover) and his colleagues attach flowers and decorate the martyrs' graves.
Every year, the provincial cemeteries welcome many delegations of officials, organizations, and individuals to visit, offer incense, and pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs. On those occasions, the workload of the caretakers also increases 2-3 times compared to normal days. They arrive at the cemetery at around 5am and return home late at night, but everyone is happy, because it is not only a responsibility but also the heart and soul of the next generation for the previous generation who did not spare their blood and bones, heroically fought, sacrificed, and fell for peace, independence, and the happiness of the people.
Although the job of a caretaker is not too hard, it requires diligence and sincerity because the salary for this job is still low. Many people can only stay for a short time and then look for another job. Only those who love the job and are proud of it can stay with this simple, quiet, and meaningful job.
These days, along with the whole country, the cadres and people of Ca Mau province are looking forward to the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day with countless acts of gratitude. This is also an opportunity for the caretakers to welcome many relatives of martyrs, listening to touching stories about the deceased with all sincerity. Those stories make the caretakers feel emotional, reminding themselves to try harder with the work they are undertaking so that the souls of the martyrs can rest in eternal peace.
