Nghe An: Consumer price index CPI in August increased by 1.94% over the same period in 2024

According to information from the Nghe An Statistics Office, the consumer price index (CPI) in August increased by 0.03% compared to the previous month, increased by 1.94% compared to the same period last year, and increased by 1.24% compared to December last year.

The main reasons for the increase in the consumer price index are: In August 2025, Nghe An was affected by two storms that caused severe damage to the spiritual and material lives of the people; the authorities tightened the management of sand mining, the demand for construction increased, many sand mines expired; the price of raw materials for the production of some construction materials increased, causing the price of construction materials to increase; in addition, the outbreak of African swine fever caused prices to increase.

Of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups, 5 groups had price indexes that increased compared to the previous month: Culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.35%; Housing, electricity, water and construction materials increased by 0.26%; Clothing, hats and footwear increased by 0.09%; Beverages and tobacco increased by 0.08%; Other goods and services increased by 0.02%; Education increased by 0.02%.

There are 3 groups of price indexes that remain unchanged compared to the previous month: Household equipment and appliances; Post and telecommunications; Medicines and medical services.

There are 2 groups of indexes that decreased compared to the previous month: Food and catering services decreased by 0.06%; Transportation decreased by 0.08%.

On average, in the first 8 months of 2025, the consumer price index increased by 1.94% over the same period last year. There were 8/11 groups of goods that increased, including: Medicines and medical services increased by 13.32%; Other goods and services increased by 5.38%; Housing, electricity, water and construction materials increased by 3.73%; Food and catering services increased by 2.96%; Apparel, hats and footwear increased by 1.3%; Culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 1.29%; Beverages and tobacco increased by 0.92%; Household equipment and appliances increased by 0.75%.

There are 3/11 commodity groups that decreased including: Transportation decreased by 5.73%; Education decreased by 0.86% and Post and telecommunications decreased by 0.31%.

The gold price index in August 2025 decreased by 0.18% compared to the previous month, up 46.29% over the same period. The average for the first 8 months of 2025 increased by 47.24% over the same period. Domestic gold prices fluctuated in the same direction as world gold prices.

The US dollar index increased by 0.16% over the previous month and by 3.16% over the same period. The average for the first 8 months of 2025 increased by 2.61% over the same period.

August 2025 is the end of the Nghe An sea tourism season, the number of visitors to cultural - historical and community eco-tourism sites decreased compared to the previous month. In addition, the circulation of storm No. 3 caused prolonged heavy rain and widespread flooding, affecting people's lives, as well as commercial and service activities, demand for goods, entertainment and tourism.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue in August 2025 is estimated at VND 14,191.6 billion, down 0.05% over the previous month, up 18.18% over the same period last year. In the first 8 months of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer services are estimated at VND 116,249 billion, up 15.51% over the same period in 2024.
