Hot weather, electricity consumption in the North reaches new peak

According to information from the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), at 10:30 p.m. on July 17, the peak power consumption of 17 northern provinces and cities (excluding Hanoi) was 18,242 MW, surpassing the peak consumption during the previous heat wave.

Electricity consumption in the North continues to peak due to heat.

Specifically, this capacity has surpassed the record of 18,084MW recorded on June 2, and far surpassed the peak consumption in 2024 of 17,300MW (at 10:00 p.m. on August 10, 2024).

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (July 18), the North continues to have hot weather, some places are extremely hot with the highest temperature commonly 35-38 degrees, some places are over 38 degrees, so the demand for air conditioners and cooling equipment increases, especially during peak hours in the evening. This is also the main reason why the Northern power system is under great pressure.

Along with efforts to ensure safe, stable and continuous electricity supply for more than 11 million customers in the area, EVNNPC recommends that people, businesses and agencies use electricity economically and effectively during peak hours from 13:00 to 15:00 and 20:00 to 23:00 every day.

Customers should prioritize using electrical appliances with energy-saving labels, turn off unnecessary appliances, unplug when not in use, and limit the simultaneous use of many high-power appliances during peak hours.

For air conditioners, customers should turn them on at 26 - 27 degrees or higher and combine them with electric fans. At the same time, customers should proactively monitor their daily electricity consumption through the "Customer Care" application or website to adjust their electricity usage behavior appropriately.

EVNNPC also encourages households and production and business establishments to invest in rooftop solar power systems according to the self-production - self-consumption model, contributing to reducing pressure on the national grid and developing sustainable energy.
