Raising public awareness of traffic safety
When participating in traffic on the roads, everyone must have encountered at least once a case where some traffic participants turn right, turn left without turning on the signal light or not paying attention to observe the vehicles moving in front and behind. There are many cases where traffic participants turn on the signal light to "turn left" but "turn right", or just turn on the signal light to signal and cross the road, making it very difficult for the traffic participants behind to handle, easily causing collisions. Mr. Tran Trung Chanh (Chau Doc City) said: "I see that many people do not know how to use the signal light to turn properly. Once, I was driving in the same direction when the person in front suddenly turned on the signal light, then immediately turned across the road, luckily I was driving slowly, braked in time but still almost collided. Not only did I not receive an apology, but I was also "cursed" for driving without looking at the road, not seeing the signal light to cross the road".
Everyone knows that the horn is very useful in signaling to other vehicles that they want to give way in an emergency or to warn of danger. However, it is easy to see that in big cities with dense traffic, there are still some traffic participants who continuously honk their horns to make the vehicle in front go faster, even though they know that the road is jammed and cannot "move"... Some traffic participants have an impatient attitude, do not yield, do not wait patiently, they honk continuously, weave in and out of traffic to find any way to get through the jam, regardless of the rules, even disregarding their own lives and those of others.
Walking around many schools in the province before and after school, it is not difficult to see parents wearing full helmets but carrying their children with bare heads or only wearing cloth hats. Some parents even carry 2-3 children on a motorbike at the same time, speeding on the road without wearing helmets and not anticipating unexpected accidents that may occur. Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Kieu (Phu Tan district) shared: "I think that wearing helmets for children is very necessary to protect the safety of children, but there are still some parents who have not voluntarily complied." Sharing the same thought with Ms. Kieu, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (Long Xuyen city) said: "Traffic accidents do not spare anyone, so since my children were young, my family has put helmets on them every time they ride motorbikes to ensure safety."
In addition, many families are irresponsible in managing their children when they go to school, and hand over vehicles to their children when they are not qualified to drive. It is worth noting that young people, especially boys, lack skills and like to show off when participating in traffic, so their awareness of obeying traffic safety laws is not high. The situation of students driving motorbikes and electric motorbikes without helmets, recklessly overtaking, lining up on the road, going in the wrong direction... is common. Mr. Tran Cao Khai (Long Xuyen City) shared: “While participating in traffic, I have encountered many cases of electric bicycles and AA-license vehicles crossing the road without turning on their lights. Some young people also revved their engines, weaved, lined up on the road, and went in the wrong direction. This not only endangers the driver, but also poses a potential risk of accidents for other road users.”
It is thought that, along with the strong participation of the authorities, each traffic participant should be the nucleus to spread the cultural values of safe traffic in the family, community and society. At the same time, it is necessary to raise awareness of strictly complying with traffic safety laws, not driving after drinking alcohol, always wearing helmets when riding motorbikes, not jostling, speeding, or recklessly overtaking when participating in traffic... Only then can we ensure traffic safety for ourselves, our families, relatives, friends and the community.
