According to the 2026 budget estimate, the total expenditure on education and training is expected to be about 630,000 billion VND, an increase of about 134,000 billion VND compared to 2025.
This is the information given by Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang at the 2024-2025 School Year Summary Conference organized by the Ministry of Education and Training on August 22.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thang, this is the minimum expenditure level so the budget can be increased depending on demand and there is no ceiling.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thang also reminded the Ministry of Education and Training about the expenditure structure. Specifically, expenditure for investment projects must be at least 5% of total budget expenditure, and expenditure for higher education must be at least 3% of total budget expenditure.
The Deputy Minister of Finance requested that localities prioritize budgeting for education and training according to the above criteria. Localities with large needs for investment in infrastructure, equipment, textbooks, etc. must review, especially policies for teachers, attracting resources, exempting tuition fees as well as other policies to ensure coverage and limit arising problems that cause difficulties for management. Ministries and sectors with universities continue to review, especially new policies that will be included in the Resolution to be issued by the Politburo to include in the budget, and report to the National Assembly for approval.
