On July 26, Kim Dong Publishing House launched the book "The Adventures of Bella and Harry" about two shy little fish who grew up together with love and courage.
The book was written by Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, a Vietnamese clinical scientist living in Denmark. This is not only a gift from a mother who always wants to “maintain speaking Vietnamese and reading Vietnamese books to her children” but also a special work for all children on the path to adulthood.
Sharing about the inspiration for writing this book, the author said: "I am busy with daily work with patient records in the hospital, research and teaching at the university. I love my job, but deep inside me is the desire to write, to record, to tell about life's observations, or simply daily emotions."
Bella and Harry are gentle African angelfish and are often bullied. Bella and Harry grew up under the protection of their sister Sara and brother Mads, their only remaining relatives, but were soon separated.

The work opens up a lively aquatic world with characters such as the gentle Mr. Wise Fish, the old Mrs. Laura, the kind Maria and Jonas. But there is no shortage of "bullies" like old Thomas or the aggressive big fish. Bella and Harry have to move many times, all of which are life-and-death adventures, where the small fish must learn to love and become stronger to protect themselves and their loved ones in order to survive.
The story cleverly incorporates lessons about biology, psychology, and emotional education , while also sending a message about empathy, kindness, and the right to live kindly, even with a small fish.
The illustrations in the book are by nine-year-old Le Bao Han, the author's daughter. The paintings are innocent and funny, reflecting the pure worldview of children./.
“The Adventures of Bella and Harry” is the latest book in the children’s literature collection written by Vietnamese authors living abroad. Some of the authors include Quyen Gavoye (France) with the novel “Detective Squad”, “Emma Disaster”, the series “OGO Code” by Kieu Bich Huong (Belgium), the poetry collection “White Clouds and Mother’s Hair” by Truong Anh Tu (Germany), the poetry collection “For the Four Seasons” by Le Thi Thien Huong (France)…
These are practical actions that demonstrate the love for the Vietnamese language and preserve the Vietnamese language in families and in Vietnamese communities abroad. And above all, each work contributes to enriching the diversity and richness of Vietnamese children's literature.
