From early morning, people of Poi Lanh village, Muong Va commune have gone to the fields to harvest rice. Stopping the harvest, Mr. Lo Van Thoa said: My family planted more than 1,000 m², mainly glutinous rice variety 86. Thanks to the concrete road in the field, I brought the rice threshing machine to the field, the harvest was very convenient. This year's spring rice crop, my family harvested nearly 30 bags of rice.
Muong Va is the commune with the largest spring rice cultivation area in Sop Cop district, with over 270 hectares, mainly cultivating glutinous rice varieties 86, 87, 97, with sticky, fragrant rice quality, favored by the market. In addition, the commune maintains more than 60 hectares of glutinous rice cultivation, a specialty rice variety with high economic value, which is being oriented to develop according to the commodity production chain associated with consumption.
Meanwhile, in the rice fields of Sop Cop commune, the harvest is taking place urgently. This year's spring rice crop, the commune planted 53 hectares. Mr. Lo Van Dung, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune directed the villages to propagate and mobilize farmers to mobilize maximum means and forces to urgently harvest spring rice, while preparing conditions for sowing and planting for the summer-autumn crop to ensure the crop schedule. Up to now, people in the commune have harvested over 90% of the area, with a yield of about 55 quintals/ha.
This spring crop, Sop Cop district planted over 3,000 hectares. In recent years, farmers in Sop Cop district have promoted mechanization in production, especially in the harvesting stage. Threshing machines are brought directly to the fields, helping people save time and reduce labor. If in the past, each household took nearly a week to harvest, now it only takes 2-3 days to complete. Transporting rice home is also more convenient, thanks to the rural transportation system and concreted intra-field roads. In addition, people exchange labor and support each other in harvesting, helping reduce labor costs and strengthen solidarity.
Mr. Lo Van Thai, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Sop Cop district, said: Up to now, farmers in the district have basically completed the spring harvest. The department has sent staff to coordinate with communes to mobilize people to prepare land, prepare seeds, materials, and fertilizers for planting winter-spring rice. Communes have mobilized more than 7,500 people to participate in clearing 11.3 km of canals, unblocking water flows, handling vulnerable points at risk of landslides, preventing floods, and ensuring conditions for winter-spring rice production.
